Appearances can be deceiving. When cops reached 30-year-old Parul Gupta's Palam Nagar house in southwest Delhi on February 22 and found her dead, it seemed as if she had been murdered by robbers who had broken into her residence. There were multiple stab wounds on the deceased's body and the house appeared ransacked. But as probe went on, a different picture emerged.

"In the investigation we found that the deceased's in-laws and her two nephews were residing on the first floor of the house whereas she, her husband and their six-year-old son were staying on the ground floor. The victim's husband was working in a garment manufacturing unit at GT Karnal Road. On the day of the incident, he was away at work and his son has gone to school. Inquiry reports suggest that the deceased was not on good terms with her sister-in- law Bhawana Gupta," said a police officer.
During interrogation Bhawana broke down and told the police that she had murdered her sister-in-law because the victim knew about her extramarital affair with their driver. "On February 21 at night, the duo entered the house and attacked the victim. While Bhawana held her hands Jasbeer stabbed Parul to death," the officer confirmed. Cops have arrested both Bhawana and Jasbeer on charges of murder.
Cut and dried
On December 13 last year Anupama Gulati (37), was killed and then hacked to pieces allegedly by her techie husband. In the course of interrogation by the police, Anupama's husband, Rajesh Gulati (38), reportedly admitted to having murdered his wife and disposing of the body parts in polythene bags in the Musoorie area.
Rajesh allegedly kept the body components in a deep freezer before disposing them of. Rajesh is said to have hatched the plan after seeing the 1992 film Silence of the Lambs.
