Rape
NEW DELHI : A five-year-old girl was raped, beaten up and dumped in a shrubby area in southwest Delhi on Wednesday evening, police said. The girl, a resident of Sagarpur area, is stated to be in a critical condition after she was found beaten up with bricks and belt on Thursday morning. The victim was initially admitted in Deen Dayal Upadhay Hospital but when her condition did not improve she was shifted to AIIMS Trauma Centre.

The police are yet to arrest anyone in this case. "The girl was sexually and physically assaulted," said DCP (southwest) Sharad Aggarwal. A case of kidnapping, rape, physical assault and illegal confinement has been registered at Sagarpur police station. Police suspect the involvement of a man in his early twenties.

According to police sources, the girl was playing outside her house at Sagarpur's Durga Park. The victim's father, who owns a tailoring unit, was not at home. Her mother was busy inside the house tending to her two-year-old sister. "The girl told her counselors that around 8pm a young man came up to her and asked her if she would accompany him to buy balloons. She agreed and followed the man. He bought her some balloons and then some sweets. The girl was then taken to an abandoned room where she was given some more sweets. The man then took her to a deserted park and raped her. When the girl began to cry, the accused beat her on the face with stones and belt,'' said Sharad Aggarwal, DCP (southwest).

The girl was recovered from the green area near the Nasirpur MCD school.

Police said that they were looking into the case even as the family claimed it took more than four hours to lodge a missing case.
