Bansi Thakre, neighbour of the victim, and Thakre's son Hemraj are reported to have been detained by the police for questioning. Bansi is said to have a liquor business.
However, the police, based on the post mortem report at Amgaon sub district hospital, claimed that the girl had not been raped at all. Sources claimed that the doctors had not conducted a vaginal examination of the victim as a female doctor, who is required to be present during the post mortem, was not available. The vaginal examination is needed to establish rape. Bowing to public wrath, the authorities moved the girl's body to KTS Hospital in Gondia for a second post mortem on Tuesday, the result of which is awaited.
According to information, the victim was studying in Std VII at primary school in Tigaon. Her parents work at a nearby brick manufacturing unit and used to stay there itself. The girl would stay at home during the day but go to the Thakre residence to sleep at night.
Hemraj (32) reportedly told cops that on Monday, four of his friends had come to his home and they enjoyed liquor. He added that he was too intoxicated to remember what happened and did not know whether his friends raped the girl.
Since the girl had not gone to school for the last 15 days, her teachers went to her house on Tuesday to see what was the matter. Since the door to her home was bolted from inside, Thakre led the teachers inside the home through the back door. They were shocked to see body of the girl lying semi-naked.
Sources said that if the second post mortem report establishes rape, Hemraj and his friend could turn out to be the main suspects.
