Canadian arrested for girlfriend's rape

Mumbai, Mar 5 : The 28-year-old got his friends to bully her after she threatened to lodge rape case against him for not marrying her despite promising to
THREE youths, including a foreign national, were arrested yesterday in connection with the rape and molestation of a 24-year-old woman at Lake Homes near Hiranandani Gardens in Powai on Thursday.

Peter David (28), a Canadian, had been having an affair with Suzie John (name changed) for the past two years. Police officials said David had promised to marry John but had been putting it off for some time.

One of the accused, Nitin Singh, is the son of a local cable operator

However, things came to a head on Thursday when John brought up the subject of marriage again and threatened to lodge a rape complaint against David if he did not oblige.

This angered him and he decided to get two of his friends, who are local goons, to threaten John and put all ideas of complaining to the police out of her head.

Nitin Singh (25), the son of a local cable operator, and Lalit Paikray (26) went to John's house on Thursday evening and allegedly threatened and molested her.

"Initial investigations have indicated that both of them were under the influence of drugs when they molested her. It is not clear whether the victim's drink was laced before the act," said an officer from the Powai police.

John approached the Powai police yesterday, an FIR was filed and Singh, Paikray and David were arrested.

While Singh and Paikray have been booked under Section 354 (molestation) of the IPC, David has been booked under Section 376 (rape).

The three suspects were sent for medical examination late last night and will be presented before a magistrate today.

The victim's father is a reputed garment exporter and the family, which is from south India, has been living in Powai for four years.

According to the police, the victim and the accused were students of a college at Vile Parle (west).
Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and order) Rajnish Seth confirmed the arrests.
