19-year-old gangraped in Faridabad

New Delhi: A 19-year-old woman was allegedly gangraped on Wednesday in a moving goods carrier by four men who were reportedly under the influence of alcohol.

The incident was reported from Old Chowk area in Faridabad. The four accused have been arrested, police said.

According to police, the woman, a resident of Parvatiya Colony in Ballabhgarh, was on her way to attend a marriage ceremony and had hailed an auto-rickshaw. She left her house around 8.30 pm and was headed for Bhadkal, Faridabad. The auto-rickshaw already had two men riding in it when she got in, police added.

“When they reached Sector-16 near the national highway, 8 km from the spot where she boarded the auto, the driver stopped the auto near a goods vehicle. The men in the auto went up to the truck driver; they were joined by another man,” a senior police officer said.

“They pulled the woman out of the auto, forced her into the truck and took turns to rape her,” he added.

Later, they dropped the victim near Bhadkal Chowk and fled, police said. She called her parents using a public phone.

Police said the victim told them that the men beat her up and threatened her after raping her. “She said the men were reeking of alcohol,” said the officer.

A complaint was registered at Faridabad’s Sector-16 police station on Thursday.

Police said the victim was able to recall the auto’s number-plate. The vehicle was traced to Old Faridabad, where the accused were apprehended.

“They have been identified as Virender alias Mircha (auto driver), Banwari Lal (truck driver), Vijay and Chander Prakash,” said the officer.

Medical examination of the victim has confirmed rape, he added.
