The victim was identified as Gyani Singh, daughter of Ravindra Singh, a resident of Ludhauli village under Itaunja police station. Gyani who is undergoing treatment at a hospital has completed her intermediate from Neer Devi Inter College.
Strangely, Gyani's family had lodged a complaint with the police that the girl had tried to commit suicide.
Itaunja station officer Shashi Pandey while talking to TOI confirmed that it was Ravindra Singh who shot at Gyani. He said: "The theory floated by family members of Gyani that she tried to commit suicide did not gain ground during initial investigation.''
Elaborating on the incident, Itaunja police said: "Ravindra who is a private security guard has a habit of drinking. On Saturday also, he returned home in an inebriated state and unnecessarily indulged in heated arguments with virtually all the family members.''
While the dispute was on, Ravindra caught hold of Gyani and told her that he would fix her marriage soon. However, Gyani refused to marry as she wanted to continue her studies further.
Enraged over Gyani's denial, Ravindra took out his licensed DBBL gun and shot at Gyani. The bullet hit Gyani on stomach. The family members immediately took Gyani to a nearby hospital.
On receiving the information, a police team rushed to the spot and started investigating the matter. Even though the police got a hint that it was Ravindra who had shot at Gyani, the family members tried to convince police that Gyani had tried to commit suicide. In fact, Gyani was also told by the family members to say the same lines in front of the police. Even the villagers did not came out against Ravindra.
So, the police lodged the complaint filed by Gyani's brother Pankaj that she tried to commit suicide. However, after getting some clinching evidence in this regard, the police said that the case of attempt to suicide would be altered and the new FIR would have Ravindra as accused of attempt to murder, the station officer confirmed.
