Harold Landry, 64, allegedly hit his wife Lucy, 38, over the head with a granite rolling pin. He chased her into the garden of their home and stabbed her 23 times with a kitchen knife, it was claimed, The Telegraph reported.
Wolverhampton Crown Court heard that the couple were in the throes of an acrimonious divorce and Landry resented his wife's new relationship with Gareth Jenkins, an old school friend from South Wales.
The relationship between the couple -- Landry and Lucy -- had itself started over the internet. As romance blossomed after several meetings, Landry, who lived in America and was rich enough to retire, came to England to set up home with his lover in a house on the Besford Court Estate near Pershore, Worcs.
The court also heard that Landry, who has denied having murdered his wife, was suffering from prostate cancer. The case continues.
