JNU expels two students over porn clip

The Jawaharlal Nehru University, on Saturday, expelled two students charged with producing a video clip depicting one of them in a compromising position with a girl student.
Janardhan Kumar, a final-year BA (Korean) student, and Balbir Chand, a second-year MCA student, had been served showcause notices on Friday. They were expected to reply within a day. Kumar, who has been missing from his room for the last two days, did not file a reply.
A copy of the Chief Proctor's report was handed over to the police on Saturday. The university has also informed the police of its willingness to share evidence and information, if requested.
A third student, in whose room the filming was done in April 2010, was rusticated for a year. "One of the high points of the investigation was locating the room in which the filming took place. Both the accused did not cooperate in that regard, and we were left to locate one room from 2,000 spread over 10 hostels through other means," said a top official.
"In the video, we noticed a burnt switchboard near a fan regulator. We sent out the description to all hostel wardens, and a positive response came from Periyar. The photographs matched," he added.
The student, in whose room the filming was done, was not a part of the conspiracy. A classmate of Kumar, he had left his keys in a spot known to a number of students. How the clip, shot almost a year ago, became public in the last week of January is still a mystery.
