It's an instance that would have been cited as the pinnacle of a brother-sister relationship. Only the brother here happens to be an alleged rapist and the sisters in question have been arrested on charges of kidnapping.
To prevent the arrest of their brother, two girls allegedly kidnapped the sexually assaulted victim and held her hostage for ten days. The victim somehow escaped from their clutches and reached the police after which the duo was arrested. The incident has been reported form Bhalswa Dairy area of northwest Delhi.
The victim, Pooja (name changed), lives in Ashok Vihar area of northwest Delhi. Around fifteen days ago she was allegedly raped by her neighbour Chaman, a vagabond from the area. She approached the police and got an FIR of rape registered against Chaman. When Chaman came to know about the FIR he ran away from the area. His two sisters, Renu and Retu approached the victim and asked her to take back the FIR but she refused.
"A day after when Pooja was on her way to the local market, she was kidnapped in a Maruti Van by Retu and Renu," said a police official. The duo took Pooja to an isolated place in Rohini. They held her captive inside a room. "Pooja said that the duo tried to force her to sign on some legal paper but she refused. The duo used to beat her up brutally almost every day. But Pooja was being given food too. The sisters had said to her that they would set her free only when she retracted the FIR that was filed against their brother," said the police official close to the investigation.
Ten days passed by. One day Pooja managed to surprise the duo and escaped. Retu and Renu could not catch her. She ran and approached Bhalswa Dairy police station. She gave her statement to the cops who filed a case of kidnapping and holding a person hostage against Retu and Renu.
"Police conducted several raids on the address provided by Pooja and were able to arrest the duo. During the course of interrogation the girls revealed that they only wanted Pooja to take back the FIR against their brother. The duo has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days," said the police official.
'I give up'
A police official said that Chaman surrendered himself before the police after his sisters were arrested.
"Chaman was arrested by Ashok Vihar police while his two sisters have been arrested by Bhalswa Dairy police," said the cop.
