19-year-old raped near Dhaula Kuan

The girl was sleeping in her room when she was attacked by her neighbour

The Dhaula Kuan area of south Delhi seems to have become a 'nightmare street' for the Capital's fairer sex. Since last year, several cases of rape and molestation have been reported from the area.

On Sunday, the horror was repeated. A 19-year-old girl was raped by her neighbour in her room in Anand Nitekan near Dhaula Kuan. The accused, a 25-year-old man, has been arrested.

According to a senior police official, the victim, Neha (name changed) is a native of Jharkhand and has been living in G-Block of Anand Niketan with her elder sister for the past few years.  "On Sunday evening, when she was sleeping in her house, her neighbour Sanjay barged into her room and locked the door from inside. He then threatened her and raped her.

On hearing a commotion, the victim's sister reached the spot and called the police," the officer said. The police then took the victim to Safdarjung Hospital where the medical examination confirmed rape and a case was filed.

Jilted lover attempts kidnap
A 20-year-old girl was attacked by her jilted lover who then allegedly tried to kidnap her. The incident occured near Satya Niketan in Dhaula Kuan area. A senior police official said that the victim, Priya (name changed) lives in Moti Bagh and works with a private firm as receptionist. The official said that a week ago she had an argument with one Rahul over a petty issue. "According to Priya, on February 15, Rahul came to her office and after having an argument with her, threatened her. On February 17, when Priya was returning home, Rahul, who was with his friends, stopped her. He then held her arm and tried to drag her towards an isolated place. A police constable who was on the duty nearby saw them and rushed to girl's rescue. Seeing a cop coming their way, Rahul and his friends fled the spot. We have lodged a case," the official said.

Past imperfect
It was one of the most sensational rape cases to hit Capital in the recent times. On November 24 last year, a call centre employee hailing form Mizoram was allegedly kidnapped by five persons and gangraped in a moving mini truck. The victim was walking towards her residence in Moti Bagh village near Dhaula Kuan in South Delhi along with one of her colleagues when the accused dragged her into their vehicle and sped off. They later dumped her near Mongolpuri in Outer Delhi.
