At 10.30 pm, Amla's father, Salva Nader (59) returned and inquired about her. Rajratna told him she was in the bathroom. After 20 minutes, seeing that Amla had not stepped out, Salva entered the bathroom and saw his daughter's mutilated body. The right leg had burn marks. A gunnysack had been kept near the body.
Horrified, Salva asked his wife what had happened. Rajratna said Amla had died in a train accident and her body had been brought home.
Salva immediately called the police. When they arrived, they questioned Rajratna, who broke down during interrogation and confessed to murdering her daughter.
According to the police, the presence of a sack indicates that Rajratna must have wanted to get rid of the body, but was prevented by the arrival of her husband.
Inspector D B More, who is the investigating officer for the case said, "The accused was being treated at the Sanjivani hospital in Virar for the last two years. We took her to the Thane Civil hospital for medical treatment.
When produced in front of the magistrate, she gave abnormal answers and the magistrate ordered us to conduct an examination at the Thane Civil hospital to ascertain if she was mentally ill."
"We are waiting for the postmortem reports to find out if the victim was burnt with petrol or kerosene. If she was burnt with petrol, the murder was pre-planned since petrol is not usually kept at home," said Yousuf Bagwan, senior Inspector of Virar Police Station, another investigating officer in the case.
The Nadars have three sons, one of whom is studying in Bengaluru, while the other two are studying in Hyderabad.
