'He forced me to have oral sex for 4 years'

Mumbai, Feb 26 : Minor accused of slaying Borivli senior citizen alleges the old man had been molesting him; cops dismiss allegation, call it a ploy to gain sympathy

After allegedly slitting the throat of a 71-year-old Borivli resident and banging his head against the wall until he died, the two minors charged with the brutal murder say they had a good reason to do it: they were being forced to have oral sex.

Charged with brutal murder, the two arrested minors have been sent to Dongri Remand Home

On February 23, the Borivli police arrested Ramesh Gaikwad (17), his accomplice Nishant Dave (17), and their friend Sanjay Ranpise (21), all Borivli residents, for slaughtering senior citizen Subhash Desai.

(The names of the two minors have been changed).

While Sanjay was sent to police custody by a local court, Ramesh and Nishant were sent to the children's remand home in Dongri.

"He (Desai) had been forcing me to have oral sex with him for the last four years. When I refused, he threatened me," said Ramesh to the counsellors at the remand home yesterday.

According to officials at the remand home, when the duo arrived late Wednesday night, they showed no remorse for their action.

As a practice, they were made to speak to the counsellor on Thursday morning.

The conversation revealed that Ramesh, a school dropout after Std IX, had a job as a liftman in Dadar. He earned a monthly salary of Rs 3,500, and lived with his parents. Nishant, also a school dropout, was jobless.

Minor's version

Ramesh told the cousellors that Desai's adopted son, Satya (22), introduced him to the old man a few years ago. Desai, who lived by himself in his apartment, would call him, ostensibly to help out with chores.

He would offer him snacks and tea, and then initiate foreplay, which would end with oral sex, Ramesh alleged.

This continued for a few months until he learnt that the old man did the same with 10 other young boys from the locality he kept changing his partners.

Ramesh said that he wanted to stop visiting Desai and made this clear to him, but Desai threatened to disclose the sexual nature of their relationship to his parents. On days, when he refused to go to his place, Desai would come to get him on some pretext or another.

After Ramesh learnt that his friends Nishant and Sanjay had been through a similar experience, the trio decided to settle his act.

On February 19, they killed him. After the murder, they ransacked the house and escaped with Rs 1,900 of cash from the flat, which they later used to eat in hotels.

Decaying corpse

Reportedly, after the boys fled the spot, the carcass of Desai's mangled body lay decomposing for days until the neighbours recognised the stench of death. They called the police.

After enquiring, cops gathered that residents of Desai's building had seen Ramesh visiting his apartment regularly.

They nabbed him first. During the course of questioning, he let out about his accomplices and they were arrested.

Venereal disease?

After listening to the minors' tale, senior officials at the remand home fear that both Ramesh and Nishant may be suffering from a sexually-transmitted disease.

They will be sent to JJ hospital today for medical tests, cops said.

Incidentally, Nishant told the counsellors that he has multiple sclerosis, a life threatening disease, a fact which his father confirmed before hanging up on the counsellors who had called him to break the news of the arrest.

But when the counsellors examined him, they couldn't find any symptoms.

Officials said that though the parents of both the accused were informed about the arrest, none of them turned up to meet the boys.

Spinning yarn?

The police doubt if there is any grain of truth in what Ramesh has recounted to the counsellors. They believe the sodomy tale is his ruse to save his hide.

Additional Police Commissioner (North Region) Ramrao Pawar rubbished Ramesh's statement, saying, "The boys are making an attempt to gain sympathy now by making such statements.

They committed an offence intentionally. They hacked the old man to death. This fact cannot be ruled out. We have gathered sufficient evidence to nail them. And our probe is still on."

26/11 NSG commando held for drug trade

New Delhi, Feb 26 : An NSG commando, who claimed to have been part of the strike team during the 26/11 attacks, was arrested along with an accomplice for allegedly indulging in drug trade yesterday.

26 kg of a banned hypnotic drug with a street value of Rs one crore was seized said police officials.

Kuldeep (27), who hails from Alwar in Rajasthan, and Naresh were apprehended from South Delhi's Saket following a tip off, a senior police official said.

"940 gm of Methaqualone, a sedative-hypnotic drug that is similar in effect to barbiturates, a general central nervous system depressant, was recovered from them. Another 25 kg of the drug was seized from Delhi and Gurgaon," he said.

Delhi Police has informed the NSG about the arrest of the commando, who is believed to have been part of a team which was assigned to battle terrorists who attacked Mumbai in November 2008.

Investigators believe that the banned contraband was processed in Pakistan and was to be delivered to a city-based high profile drug dealer.

A case under sections 22, 25 and 29 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

"A policeman received an information that two men, including an NSG commando, would come there to deliver the contraband. He informed his senior officials and a raiding team in plain clothes laid a trap," the official said.

Kuldeep was on a motorcycle bearing a Rajasthan registration number while Naresh was riding another motorcycle with Haryana registration number.

The commando told the police that he was part of various NSG teams involved in fighting terrorists.

2 foreign women raped near Anekal; 4 held

BANGALORE: They came here from abroad to work among rural children but the two women in their mid-twenties left the country after being allegedly raped in an eucalyptus grove near Lakshmipura in Anekal taluk on January 24.

They were staying in a social service centre and went out for a walk that evening. Four youths dragged them to the grove and raped them. Police arrested Imran Pasha, who repairs almirahs, Ejaz Ahamed, a welder, Mohan and Narayanaswamy, both agricultural labourers.

The women had come to Bangalore to participate in community service as part of an academic programme. They were teaching hygiene to the rural poor and stayed in a religious centre.

"The women stayed there for around 10 days. Since they were well received by people, they may not have anticipated any trouble and that's why went for a walk on isolated roads,'' sources said.

After the incident, they returned to their camp and told the head of the centre who informed police. Initially, they refused to lodge a complaint. "Police convinced them that neither the incident nor their identities would be revealed," sources said. The women could not recall the faces of the assaulters and everyone looked similar. "That's the main reason why it took so long to arrest the four men," sources added.

Mother kills daughter, hacks off body parts

Thane: A woman killed her 26-year-old daughter and then hacked off her head and other body parts in a bout of anger in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said Saturday.
The woman, Rajratna Nadar, 50, is a mental patient and resided in Virar township with her daughter Almamary and husband Selvaraj.
"Almamary was allegedly hit on her head with a wooden club used for washing clothes. Rajratna then hacked off the body parts of her daughter with a sharp kitchen knife," police inspector Y.R.Bagwan said.
He said Rajratna had tried to burn some of the parts as they were found in half charred condition. "We found Almamary's head, an arm and the rest of the body in the bathroom," he said.
Rajratna used to get angry every now and then and Almamary took care of her while Selvaraj was away at work. Selvaraj lodged an FIR late Friday in which he mentioned that his wife not only killed their daughter but also chopped off her head, hands and legs.
"He came to know about the incident when he returned from work Friday night," Bhagwan said. When Selvaraj could not find Almamary and asked his wife, she mumbled something incomprehensible.
"He then looked for her and found his daughter's body, cut up, in the bathroom," Bagwan said. "Rajratna has been brought before a court and has been remanded in judicial custody, where she is undergoing medical examination," he added.
Residents of the building also confirmed that Rajratna suffered bouts of insanity every now and then. She had started screaming and hurling abuses from the balcony of her house Friday afternoon, following which Almamary had taken her inside.
"Neighbours said that Rajratna continued to scream even while inside," Bagwan said. "She is visibly mentally instable. She has no recollection of her daughter being dead and still acts as if she is alive," Bagwan said.

JNU says porn clip desperate act of jilted lover, case lodged

New Delhi: Acting on an internal probe by the Jawaharlal Nehru University into a porn clip involving its students, the police on Thursday registered a criminal case and also invoked sections of the Information Technology Act.
The JNU probe report claimed that the porn video was "a desperate act of a jilted lover", a final-year BA (Korean) student, who was out to "sabotage" the planned marriage of the woman he loved.
The main accused, identified as Janardhan Kumar, wanted to "blackmail her into submission", the report said.
The other accused is Balbir Chand, the 2009 ragging case whistleblower -- nine students were rusticated in that incident.
Kumar and Chand, a second-year MCA student, were expelled after the probe into the porn clip matter.
H G S Dhaliwal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), said: "We have registered a case against the two students after seeking legal opinion. There are 12 witnesses in the case. We have obtained the CD from the authorities."
According to the JNU probe report, Kumar used a Nikon camera and placed it in "automatic mode" to film the 25-minute sexually explicit video, which showed him with the woman, who was also a student, in one of the rooms of the Periyar Hostel.
Kumar took Chand's help to convert the clip into a video file, the report said, adding that Chand had been a loner ever since he had blown the whistle on the ragging case. The video file was recovered from his laptop.
During his deposition before JNU authorities, Kumar sought to blame the woman saying it was she who had procured the camera and filmed the entire act. Kumar destroyed the pen drive and the CD. The authorities were investigating who had uploaded the video clip on the Internet.
The inquiry report said "the video clip was most likely shot in April 2010 by Janardhan Kumar in order to sabotage... (her) ensuing marriage with an intention to blackmail her into submission, a desperate act of a jilted lover. Janardhan had experience in handling video cameras and knew how to edit video clips. His brother is a videographer and Janardhan possibly got these skills from him."
Kumar used this clip to blackmail the woman. "She informed her friends for help. She knew that the video file was available with Chand. The friends went to Chand's room and initially he denied the existence of any such file in his laptop. The file was discovered hidden safely in a folder that had several layers of protection. The laptop was locked in one of... (her) friends' room... Chand entered the locked room through the ventilator and tried to delete the file. When the room was opened, Chand was found inside and he had deleted the file. He was also beaten up by the other students," the report said.

Doctor jailed for raping exotic dancer after she refused him sex

Melbourne: A doctor in Adelaide, Australia, who became obsessed with an exotic dancer who refused him sex even after he wooed her with expensive gifts, has been jailed for raping her.

Minh Tuan Pham, 33, of Ferryden Park, became sexually obsessed with the 20-year-old woman who worked at an Adelaide nightspot, after lavishing her with gifts and even paying for her breast enlargement.

District Court Judge Mark Griffin said the woman refused to have sex with Pham even after he offered her as much as 20,000 dollars.

"It was deliberate, purposive and calculated. Violent crimes against women are particularly abhorrent to all right-thinking members of the community," News.com.au quoted the judge as saying.

Justice Griffin sentenced Pham to nine years in jail with a non-parole period of five years for raping his victim and causing aggravated harm.

Man jailed for sexually abusing his friend's children

Oz man, who 'felt a thrill' while sexually abusing friend's children, jailed

Melbourne: A man in Australia, who confessed he "felt a thrill" while sexually abusing his friend's children for 10-years, has been jailed for only six years.

Neale Martin Ross, 48, had molested four girls, including one who was aged four years, on numerous occasions including during visits they made to his home in Melbourne's east.

At the Victorian County Court, Ross, who himself is a father of two, pleaded guilty to six counts of sexually penetrating a child under 16 and 15 counts of committing an indecent act with a child under 16.

He told police he "felt a thrill" when he abused the children, who were aged between four and 15 years, and had a "fatal attraction" to them.

Judge Christopher O'Neill said such offending was "abhorrent" and led to long-term damage of the children and their families.

He said the victim impact statements made "chilling reading" and highlighted the emotional damage caused.

"It is a serious aggravating feature that the victims were all children and aged between four and 15," News.com.au quoted O'Neill as saying.

He ordered Ross to serve a non-parole period of four years.

Ross, who will be a registered sex offender for life, has already spent 317 days in custody.

19-year-old raped near Dhaula Kuan

The girl was sleeping in her room when she was attacked by her neighbour

The Dhaula Kuan area of south Delhi seems to have become a 'nightmare street' for the Capital's fairer sex. Since last year, several cases of rape and molestation have been reported from the area.

On Sunday, the horror was repeated. A 19-year-old girl was raped by her neighbour in her room in Anand Nitekan near Dhaula Kuan. The accused, a 25-year-old man, has been arrested.

According to a senior police official, the victim, Neha (name changed) is a native of Jharkhand and has been living in G-Block of Anand Niketan with her elder sister for the past few years.  "On Sunday evening, when she was sleeping in her house, her neighbour Sanjay barged into her room and locked the door from inside. He then threatened her and raped her.

On hearing a commotion, the victim's sister reached the spot and called the police," the officer said. The police then took the victim to Safdarjung Hospital where the medical examination confirmed rape and a case was filed.

Jilted lover attempts kidnap
A 20-year-old girl was attacked by her jilted lover who then allegedly tried to kidnap her. The incident occured near Satya Niketan in Dhaula Kuan area. A senior police official said that the victim, Priya (name changed) lives in Moti Bagh and works with a private firm as receptionist. The official said that a week ago she had an argument with one Rahul over a petty issue. "According to Priya, on February 15, Rahul came to her office and after having an argument with her, threatened her. On February 17, when Priya was returning home, Rahul, who was with his friends, stopped her. He then held her arm and tried to drag her towards an isolated place. A police constable who was on the duty nearby saw them and rushed to girl's rescue. Seeing a cop coming their way, Rahul and his friends fled the spot. We have lodged a case," the official said.

Past imperfect
It was one of the most sensational rape cases to hit Capital in the recent times. On November 24 last year, a call centre employee hailing form Mizoram was allegedly kidnapped by five persons and gangraped in a moving mini truck. The victim was walking towards her residence in Moti Bagh village near Dhaula Kuan in South Delhi along with one of her colleagues when the accused dragged her into their vehicle and sped off. They later dumped her near Mongolpuri in Outer Delhi.

Dad arrested for raping, getting girl pregnant

13-year-old, who was victimised for over a year, wrote a letter to an NGO, which subsequently filed a complaint with the police

ACTING on a 13-year-old girl's complaint to an NGO that her father raped her repeatedly and threatened her and her mother for over a year, the Shivaji Nagar police arrested Shahabuddin Khan (42) from his Mankhurd home at 8 pm yesterday. Khan allegedly also got his daughter pregnant.

Khan allegedly threatened to kill his wife and daughter if they spoke about the rape

Pinky (name changed) wrote a letter (copy with MiD DAY) to NGO Rashtriya Aman Sena yesterday, following which the NGO filed an FIR with the Shivaji Nagar police.

In the letter, Pinky wrote that her mother got pregnant last year and was admitted to the hospital. Taking advantage of her being alone in the house, Khan began to abuse hersexually.

When Khan's wife was discharged, Pinky told her everything. She tried to approach the police but Khan threatened to kill them.

This, coupled with the fact that Pinky's mother had no relatives in the city to stay with, made them keep the matter to themselves.

Pinky even got pregnant once and was forced to abort the child. Khan later shifted them to Shivaji Nagar and continued to stay in Mankhurd. He used to visit them regularly to rape the girl.

"He used to come to us and say 'If you want food and money, let me do whatever I want with Pinky,'" said Khan's wife.

After Khan's arrest, both he and Pinky were sent to the Nagpada police hospital for a medical examination at 12.30 am.

Assistant Police Inspector R Valatkar of the Shivaji Nagar police said, "The accused has been arrested under Sections 376 (1), 323 and 506 (2) of the Indian Penal Code. Further investigation is underway."

I pumped 4 bullets into Nepali

Gangster Santosh Shetty claims to have murdered gang member, calls Nepali 'a convoluted human being'
In a revelation to MiD DAY, gangster Santosh Shetty made a matter-of-fact confession that he bumped off gang member Bharat Nepali because he was an "infuriating" and "convoluted human being".

Bharat Nepali was shot dead around a month ago

This paper had earlier reported ('Did Bharat Nepali fake his death to ward it off?', December 25, 2010) that Nepali may have staged a fake death a practice adopted by gangland members in the belief that they will live longer by doing so.

But Shetty, in an e-mail after a telephonic conversation with this correspondent, said that he shot Nepali dead in Bangkok about a month ago, mainly because he was enraged with the gangster's factional tendencies.

"I and Bharat had gone to a private villa that belongs to me. On that particular day, Bharat once again tried to convince me to do away with our colleague who has been a loyal right hand thus far.

It infuriated me so much that I asked my two bodyguards to pin him down while I pumped four bullets into that convoluted human being. After which they dumped him where he belonged," wrote Shetty, a member of the Mangalorean syndicate of the underworld operations.

Insiders subscribe to an alternative reason for the murder: Shetty killed Nepali to send a message to his former associate Chhota Rajan that he wants to change the 'gang order' in Mumbai.

Moreover, it is said that Nepali was clogging his ambition. The slain gangster had reportedly developed cold feet about Shetty's plan to take over the Tilak Nagar development, gangster Chhota Rajan's domain. This led Shetty to believe that he had a secret affiliation with his former mentor.

The confession has lent credence to the theory that the Mangalore syndicate, run by Shetty, is planning to assume control of the majority of the underworld business in the city, and may thwart its rival and the only formidable gang left in the city the D Company.

After Mumbai Police wiped out most other gangs in the past months, insiders say members of the Dawood Ibrahim gang may soon find themselves challenged by the Mangalo-rean syndicate.

Himanshu Roy, joint commissioner of police (crime), asked if he is taking the threat the Shetty gang poses seriously, said, "I don't want to glamorise gangsters."

But with Nepali out of the way, Shetty and his associates from Mangalore may have a free run. Members of smaller city-based factions, like the Pandavputra gang, the Thewar gang, and the Upadhyay gang, are already in the police net.

Police sources said that a possible alignment with other former associates like Ravi and Hemant Pujari is not ruled out.

Rival claim

The ageing gangster, Rajan, on the other hand, claimed that it was he who killed Nepali, to avenge the death of his lieutenant Farid Tanasha last year.

Crime Branch sleuths are more inclined to believe Rajan. Not too convinced of Shetty's claims, they feel it is
Rajan alias Nana's retribution of Tanasha's killing. An official confirmation on this is still awaited.

Backgrounder
Shetty has been working on his own after he broke away from Rajan in 2004.

He has banded together with juniors like Vijay and Suraj Shetty to firm up his clout. Nepali had joined hands with Shetty after he broke away from Rajan around 2009. The plan was to attack Rajan in his own turf, Tilak Nagar.

The theory doing the rounds is that Nepali was wary of the little-known Suraj and wanted him eliminated. He said as much to Shetty who did not approve of his hostile plan.

Illustration for representation/Jishu Dev Malakar

A few days later, Nepali was taken by surprise in a private house in downtown Bangkok when he broached the subject of bumping off Suraj, allegedly provoking the Shettys to pump bullets into his body.

Shetty claimed Nepali's behaviour of spreading enmity within the gang evoked the memory of Rajan.

Ek Cutting!
Anna

The Kannada word 'Anna', which means big brother, signifies a gang leader from Mangalore or South Karnataka in underworld jargon.

Deshbhakti?
The Mangaloreans have always professed patriotism as key to their gang operations. Shetty, like Ravi and Hemant Pujari, claims that he joined Rajan's gang because of deshbhakti.

Rajan had assembled a deadly cluster of frontline shooters from Mangalore and the adjoining areas soon after he broke away from Dawood Ibrahim around 1993.

It included members like Shetty, Hemant and Ravi Pujaris,
Jaggu Farika, Simon and Sadhu Shetty, who had turned the tide against the Dawood gang.

The Mangalorean syndicate has the backing of several tainted hoteliers and an army of recruits from the Karwar coast in Karnataka.

Manager on the run after raping software engineer

NEW DELHI: Allegedly raped, beaten and threatened, 26-year-old software engineer Paritra (name changed) is still running from pillar to post to get justice. Paritra was allegedly raped on August 18 last year by Shiwalik Ghosh, 35-year-old senior manager of an automobile company, after he promised to marry her. She had met the accused after exchanging information over a matrimonial site. She was allegedly served cold drinks laced with sedatives before the accused sexually assaulted her.

Almost a month later, she was severely beaten up by Shiwalik and his mother Chaitali Ghosh, inside his car and then abandoned on an empty street. She was then hospitalized for months and had to undergo treatment for severe depression. Though a case was registered - as late as December 3 - in this regard, and a chargesheet filed on January 11, the accused is still absconding. If Ghosh does not surrender by March 3, he will reportedly be declared a proclaimed offender.

Meanwhile, the victim's woes continue. A day after the chargesheet was filed, she was allegedly intercepted by two bike-borne goons in south Delhi's Moti Bagh area on January 12 when she was looking for a PG accommodation and beaten up. "I was rushed to Safdurjung Hospital by a PCR van and received a fracture in my left hand apart from several other injuries on my body. A case was registered at Dhaula Kuan police station in this incident. A few days later, I was threatened and beaten up by Shiwalik on two occasions near my home in Noida," said Paritra. A case of voluntarily causing hurt, criminal intimidation and intention to insult was registered in Gautam Buddha Nagar.

SSP Noida Amitabh Yash said, "We have filed a chargesheet in the matter and are hunting for the accused. I am not aware of the case registered in Gautam Buddha Nagar."

Despite multiple cases in Noida and Delhi, the police simply claim the accused cannot be traced. But the victim says that irrespective of whatever police say the fact remains that the accused is very much in the town and continues to threaten her. "Though Shiwalik's company located in Dharuerah near Gurgaon claims he has been sacked, I know that he still comes to work. He has highly-placed connections and his company is shielding him from the police. The court also sent the chargesheet to Gurgaon police but the accused remains at large. My life is at risk. I have already been beaten up thrice at his instance. I had to spend three months in hospital," claimed Paritra.

Despite police's repeated avowals to treat crimes against women with extreme urgency, Paritra's situation reflects the ground situation with the combined police force of Delhi, UP and Haryana proving unable to track down the accused, who, according to the victim, continues to threaten her.

Wing Commander looted by airline crew?

Jewellery, digital camera taken from bag, carrier refuses compensation

Wing Commander A K Lohany, who had gone to Tel Aviv on an official visit, was in for a shock when he landed at Delhi airport. The senior Air Force officer found that the lock of his baggage was broken and his jewellery and other valuables were missing.

"I was travelling from Israel to New Delhi via Amman and Doha by Qatar Airways on January 24, 2011. When I landed in the Capital on January 25 and collected my baggage, I found a lock of one of my bags was broken. I immediately checked the bag and discovered that the jewellery and camera I had purchased in Israel was missing," said Lohany. He then found out that the lock of his colleague's bag was also broken but nothing was missing from that as he was not carrying any valuables.

"I immediately lodged a complaint with Qatar airways at the airport itself. In the evening, when the airline representative came to my home to repair the broken bag, I entered the details of missing items in the form provided by him. Now I don't know where to go for help. If a lock of the bag is broken at a place like airport, then there is no secure place left for travellers. Also, as other bags too were targetted,  it appears that there is some organised gang at work at the airport. The matter needs to be investigated," he added.

While the airlines is investigating the matter, it has refused to compensate Lohany  saying that guidelines provided to the passengers warn them that valuables should not be kept in the checked in baggage and should be carried in the hand baggage only. The airline is not liable for missing valuables and electronics from checked in baggage.

Luggage complaints top the list
The missing baggage complaints top the list  with the airlines across the country. According to Ministry of Civil Aviation, the number of baggage related complaints in December last was 28.9 percent of total complaints received, in November it was 26 percent, in October 18.7 percent, in September 17.4 percent and in August the number was 22 percent of the total complaints lodged with the airlines. "The problem is with almost all the airlines. The matter needs to be looked into," said a ministry official.

What airline Said
The passenger (Wing Commander A K Lohany) arrived in Delhi by connecting flight on January 25, 2011. He had checked-in with two  bags weighing total of 30kg. Upon arrival, he reported that a zip of one of his bags was broken and one silver chain with locket was missing from the same bag. The passenger then filled up the Passenger Property Questionnaire (PPQ) form upon arrival but the same was incomplete. Red light will now shine in Navi Mumbai

Mumbai, Feb 20 : Sex workers forced out of Kamathipura after redevelopment plans took off last month have now set up shop at Turbhe in Navi Mumbai

Kamathipura's legendary 'red light' will now shine at Turbhe in Navi Mumbai. After Mid Day reported on the redevelopment of Mumbai's oldest red light district located at Grant Road (E) to make way for an affluent residential colony, and sex workers being rendered homeless, the latest on the issue is that the sex workers have already relocated to Indira Nagar in the industrial area of Turbhe.

Sex workers (seen here at Kamathipura in a file photo) are
hoping to find customers among labourers at Turbhe's industrial
units

Sanjay Shinde of the Kamathipura Bachao Samiti, an organisation fighting to save Kamathipura, and for the rights of commercial sex workers said, "Nearly a month ago when some landlords evicted sex workers from their rented rooms, the women wept and refused to move from the streets outside.

They have now decided to shift to Turbhe, an area that has an existing sex  trade, although not as established as Kamathipura."

Most of the sex workers were piled into a truck with their belongings and shifted to Navi Mumbai, he said.

Turbhe is a 10-minute drive away from Vashi and mainly houses production units. Sex workers are hopeful at finding customers among labourers working at the units.

Dr Ishwar Gilada, Honorary Secretary of the Peoples' Health Organisation India, said, "Women from Osmanabad and Latur migrated here after the earthquake, and that's how Turbhe developed a sex trade pocket. The women from Kamathipura are finding it comfortable here because rents are cheap."

He stresses however, for the need for government agencies to step in and work towards rehabilitating women from Kamathipura, and take a decision on whether Turbhe should be the next red light district.

Real estate experts say builders are lured by Kamathipura on account of its central location and proximity to south Mumbai. "The current rate in and around Kamathipura is in the bracket of Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 per sq ft," a broker said.

Mother hacks daughter to death

Mumbai, Feb 20 : Mentally unstable woman hides mutilated body in bathroom, tells husband daughter died in a train accident

In a gruesome incident, a 50 year-old mentally unstable woman killed her daughter by chopping her body into three parts with a saw before telling the girl's father she had died in a train accident.

Amla Mary Nadar and Rajratna Nadar
Amla Mary Nadar, the 26 year-old victim, was the primary caregiver of Rajratna Nadar, her mentally unstable mother and lived with her in Divyeshree apartments in Virar. The two would fight frequently. On Friday at 9 pm, the two had a verbal altercation, which the neighbours reportedly dismissed as a daily occurrence and didn't interfere in.

At 10.30 pm, Amla's father, Salva Nader (59) returned and inquired about her. Rajratna told him she was in the bathroom. After 20 minutes, seeing that Amla had not stepped out, Salva entered the bathroom and saw his daughter's mutilated body. The right leg had burn marks. A gunnysack had been kept near the body.

Horrified, Salva asked his wife what had happened. Rajratna said Amla had died in a train accident and her body had been brought home.

Salva immediately called the police. When they arrived, they questioned Rajratna, who broke down during interrogation and confessed to murdering her daughter.

According to the police, the presence of a sack indicates that Rajratna must have wanted to get rid of the body, but was prevented by the arrival of her husband.

Inspector D B More, who is the investigating officer for the case said, "The accused was being treated at the Sanjivani hospital in Virar for the last two years. We took her to the Thane Civil hospital for medical treatment.

When produced in front of the magistrate, she gave abnormal answers and the magistrate ordered us to conduct an examination at the Thane Civil hospital to ascertain if she was mentally ill."

"We are waiting for the postmortem reports to find out if the victim was burnt with petrol or kerosene. If she was burnt with petrol, the murder was pre-planned since petrol is not usually kept at home," said Yousuf Bagwan, senior Inspector of Virar Police Station, another investigating officer in the case.

The Nadars have three sons, one of whom is studying in Bengaluru, while the other two are studying in Hyderabad.

Love knows no boundaries, no law

Robber enlists help of police officials to free lady love from brothel and marries her. Is arrested just a week later

A robber pulled the wool over the eyes of police officials to enlist their help to marry the woman he loved.

The police officials from Nagpada police station raided a brothel in Kamathipura to rescue Meena (26, name changed), a sex worker, last Sunday after Rajveer Singh Jageer Singh alias Jassi, approached them for help. He told him he was in love with Meena, who has a two year-old daughter, but the brothel owner had refused to let her leave. Pitying his plight, the officials agreed to help the couple and managed to secure Meena's release.

The Chembur resident wed Meena the same day at a temple, but their happiness was short lived.

What the 26 year-old omitted to tell the police was that he made a living stealing trucks with his 50 year-old partner Jaswant Singh Sone Singh Sandhu alias Jassa.

On Friday, sub-inspector Bhashkar Kadam, constables Hriday Mishra and Subhash Mali attached to Unit-2 of the Crime Branch arrested the duo from Byculla for stealing a truck parked in Mankhurd last month. The truck contained sacks of rice and was worth Rs 21 lakh. The duo sold the truck for Rs 2 lakh to a dhaba owner at Tarapur, on the outskirts of the city.

Inspector Sanjay Baswat of Unit 2 said, "While Jassa has been stealing trucks for 15 years and has been arrested 45 times, Jassi has gone to prison only once for his crimes. The two are habitual robbers and target trucks, lorries and dumpers parked outside dhabas."

Jassa, a veteran at such thefts, changes his appearance by dressing like a Sikh and wears a paghdi while committing the robbery. He remains clean shaven the rest of the time.

The two are in police custody.

Maid rescued after 17 years' slavery

Riyadh: A Sri Lankan maid, who was made to serve virtually as a slave by her Saudi sponsor for 17 years, has been rescued by officials of the Sri Lankan embassy in Saudi Arabia.
Kusuma Nandini, 56, who had arrived in Riyadh in 1994, was kept as a slave at her sponsor's home. She was not paid salary even once during the years of her enforced imprisonment at her employer's house and was forbidden from communicating with her relatives in Sri Lanka, Arab News quoted Sunil Wijesinghe, labour welfare officer at the Sri Lankan embassy, as saying.
Nandini was kept at one home for 15 years and then transferred to the home of her sponsor's brother.
Saudi: Maid rescued after 17 years' slavery
At one point of time, she thought she would be permanently imprisoned in the house, Nandini said. "I did not see sunlight during the past 17 years since no one took me out."
At her employer's brother's house she was given a salary for two years, the official said.
A traumatised Nandini could not speak her native tongue when she was rescued and "behaved like a robot". She had even forgotten her family members, said Wijesinghe.
"After meeting other Sri Lankans at the embassy, the maid began remembering things and started picking up her native language," he added.
The Sri Lankan embassy learned about Nandini's plight after her 25-year-old daughter, who lives in Kalutara, 40 km from Colombo, informed the foreign ministry that her family had not been in contact with her mother for 17 years.
The officials were able to track her down and bring her to the embassy.
Nandini, who came to Saudi Arabia to earn money to pay for her children's education, said: "I came to Riyadh when my eldest daughter was eight years old. Now she is 25. My son was six years at the time."

Shayan opposes his trial for perjury

Actor Shayan Munshi yesterday pleaded with the Delhi High Court against his trial for alleged perjury for turning hostile in model Jessica Lall murder case trial arguing the apex court had used part of his deposition in convicting Manu Sharma and others for the crime.

Model Jessica Lall was shot dead at a Delhi restaurant, and Actor Shayan Munshi

As the proceedings for prosecution of 31 hostile witnesses resumed before a division bench of justices S Ravindra Bhat and G P Mittal, Munshi's counsel Aman Lekhi pleaded before the court to discharge his client.
Lekhi contended Shayan couldn't be termed hostile, as even the apex court had used part of his deposition in convicting Congress leader Venod Sharma's son Manu Sharma and others for the crime.

"The Supreme Court did not discard Munshi's statement completely but accepted some portion of his testimony," Lekhi argued while referring to the high court's December 2006 findings that it had issued the show cause notice to his client and other witnesses in public interest.

Munshi is facing perjury charge as it was he on whose statement the police had registered the FIR against Sharma and was the star witness of the prosecution.

But during his deposition in the court, he had turned hostile and introduced the "two-gun theory" (use of two guns in the murder) that led to Manu's acquittal by the trial court.

Rs 2k crore will ride on each match

Hosts India firm favourites to lift the World Cup, say bookies; thousands of crores ride on each match
Team India sure have an advantage at home turf, but it is the underworld that is going to make the killing through betting in the upcoming World Cup matches.

Sources in the betting circle say the turnover from the 49 World Cup matches could be higher than the country's entire defence budget (2010-2011), which is estimated to be around Rs 1.47 lakh crore.

The turnover from the 18 group elimination matches, the sources reveal, are estimated between Rs 1,500 and Rs 2,000 crore per match.

At the quarterfinal stages, the stakes could spiral up to anything between Rs 2,500 and Rs 3,000 crore.

For the semis, the turnover may shoot up to around Rs 4,000 crore. And more than Rs 5,000 crore will be at stake if India reaches the final.

According to insiders, most of the top bookies and their punters have shifted base to plush farmhouses on the outskirts of the city in search of a safe haven.

Many of them have migrated to Gujarat and a few are camping at casinos in Goa.

A punter, requesting anonymity, said, "We find it safer to operate from outside Mumbai as the police will turn the heat on the bookies when the World Cup starts.

Most law enforcement agencies are equipped with a phone tracking system, making us vulnerable to arrests."

The whopping money involved in cricket betting has attracted the attention of the underworld. Some of the key players are members of the Dawood Ibrahim and Santosh Shetty gangs, operating from South East Asia.

According to an insider from the bookie circle, a large number of white-collared associates have been assigned the task to mingle with international cricketers and lure them by offering money and women to play as per the bookies' discretion.

Aware that a large number of punters will operate from social clubs spread across the city, the police have strengthened their network to keep tabs on the bookies linked to underworld gangs.

"We are keeping tabs on bookies suspected to be working for the underworld.

The recovery of 10 SIM cards from Dubai service providers points to bookies are keeping in touch with their counterparts in the Gulf," said Jt Commissioner of Police (Crime) Himanshu Roy.

Pune, Feb 17 : 2-yr-old raped, 9-yr-old molested on same day; rape accused arrested but molestation suspect absconding

Two cases of sexual exploitation of minors were reported from Gokhalenagar on the same day.

In the first case, a man raped a two-and-a-half-year-old child. He was arrested  on Tuesday evening. In the other case, a person who molested a nine-year-old managed to flee. Both incidents took place in Janawadi on Tuesday afternoon.

In the first case, accused Manish Ganpat Dhagale was allegedly found raping the toddler in a tempo parked near a Ganapati temple.

In the second case, the nine-year-old girl's mother found her daughter missing and went in search of her in the construction site nearby.

According to the residents of Janawadi, Amrale had in the past taken advantage of minor girls. They said Amrale would lure them with chocolates.

Cops yet to arrest soldier accused of strangling his 3-month-old girl as he admitted himself to Command Hospital for mental instability

Murder most foul: The locked door of army jawan Rohansingh Gurjar's home.
Pic/Amoodi
An army jawan allegedly killed his three-month-old daughter at his residence. The case came to light after the child's post-mortem report indicated injury marks around the baby's neck.

Police became suspicious of him since he was the last to enter the baby's room.

The police have registered an FIR against the jawan slapping charges under IPC section 302 (murder).

Police could not arrest Rohansingh Gurjar as he got himself admitted at the Command Hospital stating unstable state of mind. Gurjar is originally from Rajasthan and is posted in the Madras Regiment.

According to the police, action will be taken against him only after he is declared fit by the doctors treating him.

Gurjar was posted in the city 10 months ago. According to the police, he allegedly killed his daughter and then accompanied his wife to command hospital for a check up.

No one was present at their home except the couple's two-year-old daughter, who was sleeping at that time.

Around 4 pm, the elder daughter started crying and couple's neighbour rushed to their house to attend the crying child. When the neighbour went to the other room to check on the other child, she showed no signs of life.

Devi Sudhir Chauhan (40), the neighbour, said, "When I came back from the gurudwara, I heard the older child was crying continuously. When I peeped inside, the three-month-old baby was pale yellow and we rushed to the hospital where the doctors declared her dead on arrival."

The post mortem report indicated strangulation marks around the child's neck.

Senior Police Inspector of Wanowrie, Shivaji Kanse said, "There are no direct witnesses to this incident but corroborative evidence indicate that he was only the person who had last accessed the room where the baby was kept. We suspect that he killed the daughter first and then accompanied his wife to the hospital.

According to the doctors, it seemed he was disturbed and returned home around 5 pm leaving his wife in the hospital."

Tibetan held in drug bust

NCB recovered Rs 4 crore worth of hash. Bureau is probing to find out if the money made from the drug trafficking was diverted to fund Tibetan freedom movement
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has, for the first time, busted a well-oiled statewide drug syndicate which uses Tibetans as part of its network.

Officials raided two shops at the Tibetan market in Nashik and recovered 66 kg of pure Kashmiri hashish valued at close to Rs 4 crore.

Taming Sinon alias Chhotubhai (44), a Tibetan national, and Ladakh resident Tsering Tobaahee alias Jilebibhai (45) were arrested.

"Tibetans are usually not involved in drug trafficking. This is the first such arrest," said Yashodhan Wanage, NCB's zonal director (West).

Sleuths are interrogating the duo to ascertain if they were diverting money earned from drug trafficking to the Tibetan freedom movement.

Tip-off

Despite inputs that drug syndicates had moved out of the city, the bureau received a tip-off that hashish was being brought from Kashmir for drug peddlers in Mumbai and was being stocked at the Tibetan market in Nashik, opposite the police commissionerate.

The market consists of stalls allotted by the Nashik Municipal Corporation to Tibetan shopkeepers who sell woollens and wooden artefacts in the Shalimar locality of the city.

"As per their plan, drug peddlers from Mumbai and Thane were to approach the duo, use a code word and then buy the drugs from them," said an NCB official. The bureau is now trying to ascertain whether these stalls were being used as fronts by the drug syndicate.

Sustained interrogation of the duo revealed that the Kashmiri trafficker behind the consignment had paid them close to Rs 5 lakh each.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the trafficker is a history sheeter and is wanted in several other cases.

When protectors turn predators?

The Aarushi saga has us looking back at two similar tales of horror, where the very people who nurtured their child's life came under the radar for brutally cutting it short.
When protectors turn predators?
Six-year-old JonBenet Ramsey's battered, strangled body was found in her house's basement on December 26, 1996
The JonBenet Ramsey Story: Trial by media?
The JonBenet Ramsey story played out in a small town in Colorado, US in the winter of 1996. It was strongly believed that the parents were responsible for their six-year old daughter's murder but there was absolutely no proof to back that charge. Fifteen years later, the trail is now icy cold.
Case history: Early December 26, 1996, Patsy Ramsey called 911 to report JonBenet, her daughter six year-old daughter, missing from her bed. The Ramseys claimed there was a three-page ransom note downstairs demanding $118,000. Hours later, with the investigators in the home, JonBenet's father, John B. Ramsey, found his little girl's battered, strangled body in the their basement. John and Patsy insist an intruder killed their daughter.
Ramseys vs Talwars: Just as how the first trimester of the Aarushi case panned out, the investigators in the Ramsey case bungled-up numerous times. There was no move to protect forensic evidence. They did not search the premises thoroughly enough, they did not even seal off the area- letting friends and associates walk in and out at their leisure.
When protectors turn predators?
The Ramseys at the press conference they held to clear their names in their daughter's death
Unlike the Talwars, it took a good while before the Ramseys were aware of the mounting suspicion against them. By that time, the media was going full throttle on their direct involement in their child's death, sans proof.
When news stories appeared reporting that the police believed that JonBenet had been sexually assaulted prior to the time of her murder, John and Patsy Ramsey finally realized that the police, to use John's words -- "Weren't there to help us, they were there to hang us."
In May, the Ramseys held a press conference, part of which showed John Ramsey staring into the camera and declaring dramatically, "I did not kill my daughter."
Mirroring the Talwar story, this was a desperate attempt by the Ramseys to declare their innocence, but there were no takers. During the time, a major American talk show even held a live 'trial' on the case where they were found liable for the death.
When protectors turn predators?
The residents of Boulder, Colorado hold a candle-light vigil in memory of JonBenet
Current Status: America has long since forgotten little JonBenet. With no concrete evidence or any suspect, the case gathered dust. A few years later, Pat Ramsey also succumbed to cancer.
Where the case stands fifteen years later can be summarised perfectly by the words of CNN reporter Tom Forman, who tracked the case from the little town of Boulder in Colorado in 1996:
"All we really know is what I said many times at the end of my reports back in that sad winter: A little girl was killed in her own home on Christmas. And no one has ever spent a day in jail for her death."
When protectors turn predators?
Four-year-old Madeleine Mccann went missing from her room in Portugal in 2007 while her parents dined at nearby restaurant
The Madeleine McCann story: Gone without a trace
Case History: On May 3, 2007, Kate McCann discovered that her 4-year-old daughter Madeleine was missing from their room while on holiday in Portugal. The McCanns, who hailed rom England, were entertaining friends at a nearby restaurant and Kate had stopped by to check on her children who were asleep in their apartment. Portuguese investigators initally followed the abduction angle. Madeleine was suspected to have been kidnapped by a paedophile or a child trafficking ring. A local with a paedophilic record first confessed his role in her abduction but later, in a dramatic u-turn from his deathbed, denied the allegations.
Since the initial weeks of speculation, little in the way of hard and fast fact emerged, forcing the Portuguese police to close the case.
McCanns vs Talwars: After a year's search, the Portuguese investigators found it difficult to carry on with the abduction angle and turned the heat on the McCanns- further questioning their role in the child's disappearance. In fact, the McCanns continue to fight a legal battle against a former Portuguese detective over his allegations that Madeleine died in the rented apartment while her parents were out. He accused the McCanns of negligence.

The Portuguese police closed the investigation into Madeleine's disappearance after exactly 18 months, citing lack of evidence. In contrast, the CBI have managed to hold the Talwars accountable, naming them the main accused in the case, despite weak evidence.
Current Status: The Portuguese police may have shut the investigation but the search for Madeleine continues on a different level. People the world have reported citings of the child, the most recent in Dubai in January 2011. The McCanns have even released images projecting the appearance of an older Madeleine.
In 2010, the McCanns signed a book deal to make some extra cash to fund their global campaign. They hope to shed light on their innocence through the book which is expected to hit the stands this April.
Like the Ramseys, the McCanns have so far not been chargesheeted by the investigators- a liberty the Talwars currently do not enjoy. They go to trial on February 28.

Tycoon allegedly kills wife for her Facebook affair

http://l.yimg.com/t/images/killer-fb-60.jpgLondon, Feb 17 (IANS) An American business tycoon knifed his British wife to death after learning that she was having a love affair with an old school mate whom she met on Facebook, a court has heard.

Harold Landry, 64, allegedly hit his wife Lucy, 38, over the head with a granite rolling pin. He chased her into the garden of their home and stabbed her 23 times with a kitchen knife, it was claimed, The Telegraph reported.

Wolverhampton Crown Court heard that the couple were in the throes of an acrimonious divorce and Landry resented his wife's new relationship with Gareth Jenkins, an old school friend from South Wales.

The relationship between the couple -- Landry and Lucy -- had itself started over the internet. As romance blossomed after several meetings, Landry, who lived in America and was rich enough to retire, came to England to set up home with his lover in a house on the Besford Court Estate near Pershore, Worcs.

The court also heard that Landry, who has denied having murdered his wife, was suffering from prostate cancer. The case continues.

Jilted Pakistani girl films her lover's brutal murder

Islamabad, Feb 16 (PTI) Taking revenge on her unfaithful lover, a 17-year-old Pakistani girl hired goons to murder him and then filmed the gruesome act with her cellphone as the murderers chopped his body parts, police said.

Maira Maryam, the jilted girlfriend of Kamran (20) orchestrated his murder, made her accomplices hack his body to pieces, and captured the act on her cellphone, The Express Tribune reported.

Police said pictures of Kamran's body were found on her cell phone and the laptop of one of the suspects, Umair Ali Khan.

Maryam claimed Kamran had trapped her in love, using her to fulfil his sexual appetite, and then dumped her. Later when he began offering her to his friends, she could not tolerate it and decided to kill him, police said.

She managed to win Umair's sympathy, who was also Kamran's cousin, and made the murder plan with him.

Doctor held for 'raping' compounder in Kalyan

The police have arrested a doctor from Kalyan for allegedly raping a 19-year-old girl assisting him in his clinic. According to investigators, the accused was upset when the victim refused to work for him after landing a job in a multinational bank. "On her last day at the clinic on Saturday, Jitendra Mishra (26) took the teen to his flat and raped her," a police officer said.

The victim in her complaint said that Mishra convinced her to accompany him to his new flat at Vilas Apartments in Chakkni Naka after claiming that a woman patient had to be administered first-aid.

"Mishra shut the clinic in the afternoon and asked me to come along with him, but I got a shock when I found the house empty. Mishra then locked the door and forced himself upon me. He then warned me against reporting the matter to anyone and threatened to tarnish my image," the girl told the cops.

"The girl returned to her house after the incident but was forced to stay mum as her family members were out of town. Also, she was too frightened to confide in anyone else. The horror came to light after the teen narrated the entire incident to her parents after they returned on Monday," Manpada police inspector D Pandhare said.

The victim's father, who lodged a complaint, said that his daughter had been employed as a nurse in a hospital before she joined Mishra's clinic, which was in the neighbourhood, as a compounder."After the complaint was lodged, we arrested Mishra from his residence on Monday night. We produced him in court where the judge remanded him in custody till February 22," Manpada police inspector Dattatre Pandhare said.

Goods vanish from airport's cargo

Clearing house agent arrested for being part of a syndicate which lifted goods worth Rs 100 crore out of airport's cargo and parcelled them to importers keen on avoiding duties
Mumbai Police has stumbled upon a neat syndicate that specialises in appropriating goods from the airport's cargo complex, and delivering them to their receivers who want to escape paying duty on the goods.

In the past few months, consignments worth more than Rs 100 crore have been smuggled out of the complex without any official clearance, setting the state exchequer back by a few hundred crores that it would have earned by way of import taxes on the goods.

The smuggling racket was exposed after cops arrested a clearing and forwarding house agent working in tandem with porters at the airport on Sunday night.

The arrest came when a package of fabric and lace went missing from the air cargo complex at Sahar on Friday. Customs officials had kept the consignment under observation as the agent had 'misdeclared' the contents to be something else to avoid paying duty.

But when Joint Commissioner of Customs Prashant Khaduskas asked his officers to bring a sample for examination, the package was found to be missing even though it featured on the inventory at the cargo complex.

After some prying, a team under zonal Deputy Commissioner of Police Satyanarayan Choudhary, on Sunday night, nabbed the agent, Rajendra Kotian.

He allegedly is the facilitator for the bootleg goods. They forced the names of his accomplices out of him. Police now suspect porters Shailendra Kalu Singh, Praveen Jha and one Anant.

"We have recovered the consignment valued around Rs 3 lakh after arresting the accused. A few more arrests are likely soon," added DCP Choudhary.

Choudhary refused to share further details fearing it might hamper investigations.

Based on confessions, cops deduced that hundreds of items still on the cargo records are only present in the godown in name. In reality, they have been smuggled out of the complex.

Nexus

Investigators realised that members of the syndicate lifted the goods out of the complex with the help of some porters.

Apart from that, it showed considerable skill in using bogus import-export codes, roping in a few customs officers to help them out.

Having made everyone a party to its shady dealings, the syndicate managed to bypass the entire procedure of declaration of goods by producing bills of entry, examination and octoroi duty regarding the consignments.

Its expertise in bootlegging lured several importers, who approached Kotian, to get their goods cleared without dishing up the attached taxes.

Cops surmise that the agents could not have pulled the trick without tacit consent from customs officials.

A senior customs official disclosed that some tainted agents have been arranging private dance parties secretly for officials at locations like Khandala, Lonavala and Mahabaleshwar to buy their silence.

Police are already checking for the possibility of links between the agents and the underworld. Dozens of porters have come under scanner but nothing has been confirmed as yet.

Sources said that the tainted agents, growing fat on the ill-gotten money, have been investing in other areas like real estate. Many have bought assets in mushrooming business centres in the western suburbs of the city.

Mumbai International Airport Limited spokesperson Manish Kalkatki said, "As a standard practice, MIAL has the necessary systems in place for the inventory of cargo. In fact, it was we who filed the FIR with the police in this case."

Contraband Popular items smuggled now: Electronic items like hard disks, computer ICs, laces, special fabrics, cigarettes, high-end watches, gold, exotic animals, red sanders, diamond and currencies.

Items smuggled earlier: Textiles like Boski and Stretchlon, Omex watches, cigarette lighters, garments from South East Asia, music systems, VCRs, televisions sets, gold and diamond.

The sword was meant to be presented to the party's Yuva Morcha president Anurag Thakur, during the rally.

The Minara Masjid at Mohammad Ali Road could be seen aglow in all its splendour on the eve of Eid-e-Milad

Just before the function could begin, the organisers realised that the sword had been stolen from where it was kept near the podium.

The discovery sent BJP workers scurrying for another sword and one was procured in some time. The replacement sword, a smaller one, cost as much as the original.

Caught unaware
Mritunjay Pandey, president, BJP Uttar Bharatiya Morcha said, "I have heard about it. Someone must have taken advantage of the crowd and stolen the sword.

I have no further details as the rally was being organised by the Yuva Morcha." Pandey said he did not know whether a complaint had been lodged.

The rally was organised to woo the Hindi-speaking population in the city and launch a campaign for the 2012 civic elections.

The party is trying redeem itself with the North Indian community, which is the highest contributor of votes in the city, after they raised objection to BJP leaders pushing for railway jobs for the sons of the soil.

The mails claimed that the receiver had been shortlisted by the company and that it was willing to offer a job for high posts. "Many innocent people have fallen victim to this fraud. After over four years, man arrested for lover's murder

Pune, Feb 16 : Police at first filed case against father, brother of slain 18-yr-old, but CID took over case and found witnesses who indicated woman's lover beat her

A murder case was cracked after over four years with the CID arresting the lover of an 18-year-old woman slain in September 2006.

The CID produced Arvind Ashok Mote (27), a resident of Solapur, in court on Monday for the September 10, 2006, murder of Priyanka Nanaware.

Priyanka's medical report indicated death due to shock caused by injuries and consumption of poison. At the time, the Sahakarnagar police station registered a case of accidental death. Later, Narayan Khaire, the then senior police inspector of the police station, filed a case against Priyanka's father Yashwant Nanware (46) and his brother Nikhil (21), residents of Gokulnagar, Katraj-Kondhwa Road, for forcing her to consume poison.

Yashwant was later released on bail and anticipatory bail was granted to Nikhil. The police had filed a chargesheet in the case, which was transferred to the CID in 2008.

The CID started investigations afresh and found two eyewitnesses who indicated Priyanka had gone to her uncle's place and met Mote there; Priyanka urged him to marry her but Mote refused and beat her up. As two witnesses said Mote beat up Priyanka a day prior to her death, the CID arrested him for her murder.

The CID recovered some pills in Priyanka's sack, which were from Mote's Sidhdheshwar Medical Shop.

In court, the prosecution argued that the CID wanted to know whether the poison consumed by Priyanka was from Mote's shop. The court remanded Mote in police custody till February 21.

Shahar Banu (50), joint director, co-operative societies, said that the incident occurred on February 8, when she left her office at around 6 pm. While she was on her way, her car was waylaid by two of the bank staff -- Hussain Saab and Basheer, who deflated the car tyres.

Breaker
The duo started hurling abuses at her, for which Banu got out of her vehicle. The two started slapping her, and pulled her saree, even as passersby looked, and no one came for help. They threatened that they would kill her if she reported to work, and then left, leaving her in a state of shock.

Citing the reason for the attack, Banu said that Saab was disturbed because he had been transferred to the Belgaum branch. However, sources in the bank said that the transfer issue was just an excuse, and the duo, who are close to a former board of directors wanted to intimidate her. This was to stop her from filing a complaint against him and his board of directors who happened to be his family members.

But despite Banu seeking security, the Commercial Street police are yet to act. ACP, B B Ashok Kumar said that a case has been filed and they are investigating. However they have not yet decided upon providing security to Banu at this stage.

When contacted, Banu refused to comment, stating that she was not authorised to speak to the media. "I have not been given any security, and I would continue doing my job despite the threats and intimidation I face," she said.

The victim somehow escaped from their clutches and reached the police after which the duo was arrested. The incident has been reported form Bhalswa Dairy area of northwest Delhi.

The victim, Pooja (name changed), lives in Ashok Vihar area of northwest Delhi. Around fifteen days ago she was allegedly raped by her neighbour Chaman, a vagabond from the area. She approached the police and got an FIR of rape registered against Chaman. When Chaman came to know about the FIR he ran away from the area. His two sisters, Renu and Retu approached the victim and asked her to take back the FIR but she refused.

The sisters had said to her that they would set her free only when she retracted the FIR that was filed against their brother," said the police official close to the investigation.

Ten days passed by. One day Pooja managed to surprise the duo and escaped. Retu and Renu could not catch her. She ran and approached Bhalswa Dairy police station. She gave her statement to the cops who filed a case of kidnapping and holding a person hostage against Retu and Renu.

During the course of interrogation the girls revealed that they only wanted Pooja to take back the FIR against their brother. The duo has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days," said the police official.

'I give up'
A police official said that Chaman surrendered himself before the police after his sisters were arrested.

Father raped teenage daughter to have baby for infertile girlfriend

London: An English father, who repeatedly raped his 16-year-old daughter, has said he wanted her to provide a child for his interfile girlfriend.

The 46-year-old from Cambridgeshire village groomed and then abused the girl, who has the mental age of a seven-year-old, on a daily basis after his wife left him three years ago, reports the Daily Mail.

She eventually gave birth to a boy but told the authorities an ex-boyfriend had made her pregnant after her father threatened to kill himself if she revealed the truth.

The sickening abuse only came to an end after the teenager contacted police when she discovered he had also raped her 14-year-old friend after plying her with alcohol.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was given an indeterminate jail term at Cambridge Crown Court today after he was convicted of three rapes, sexual activity with a child, sexual assault of a child and perverting the course of justice.

Judge Jonathan Haworth said he would serve a minimum of seven years and 45 days, adding he posed a 'serious risk' to teenage girls.

His daughter, who is now 19, gave birth in December 2008 but it was not until March last year that she contacted police after learning her friend had been raped during a visit to their home.

During the trial, the father's former lover denied his version of events and said she had never planned to have a child with him.

She said he had lost interest in her when he found out she had had a hysterectomy.
