Serial rapist poses as tutor online to lure his victims

Women allegedly drugged, sexually assaulted at Mt Coot-tha

By Brooke Baskin
A BRISBANE man has been targeting foreign students by promising to teach them English before allegedly drugging and raping them.
Three young women responded to the man's advertisement on a Brisbane-based social networking site last week and agreed to meet him in the Brisbane CBD on consecutive days.

Brisbane West Police District Detective Inspector Bob Hytch said the three university students met the man at a pre-arranged location in the CBD on Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday.

Insp Hytch said the man drove the women to Mt Coot-tha where he allegedly drugged them by offering them a drink laced with some sort of stupefying agent.

He then sexually assaulted them.

One of the women, from Korea, contacted police after waking up at her home the day after she met the man without knowing what had happened.
Insp Hytch said a 37-year-old man from Murarrie was assisting police with their enquiries.
He said leads indicated more students may have been raped in a similar way and urged them to report the crime to police.

``We believe there are further victims out there who for some reason have felt uncomfortable and haven't been able to come forward,'' Insp Hytch said.

``Our enquiries to date strongly suggest there are other people out there.''

He urged other women or anyone who may have seen a white sedan and a man acting strangely to report the sighting to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppers.com.au
