Fake currency seized in Mumbai

Mumbai, Apr 8 : An International fake currency racket was busted by officers of the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) with the arrest of an old man carrying fake currency worth Rs 5 lakh.

Harun Dayamalik Sheikh (51) a native of Purulia district in West Bengal was apprehended after a trap was laid outside Star Bazar in Andheri east on wednesday. He was found carrying fake currency notes worth Rs five lakh.

Police said Sheikh was working at the behest of kingpin of the racket, a widow from Jharkhand, Saira Bibi Ansari, who is believed to have pumped in fake currency in the Indian market. She has contacts with a Bangladesh national, sources said.

Sheikh was produced before a local court and remanded to police custody till April 11
