The four men crashed a pick-up truck through the front of the Detroit business in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The masked raiders threatened the cashier with AK-47s as they loaded the cash machine into the back of one of their three vans.
Moment of impact: The pickup van crashed into the Detroit petrol station in the early hours of Saturday morning
Armed and dangerous: This blurry CCTV footage shows one of the men carrying an AK-47 machine gun during the raid on the Detroit petrol station
It is not yet clear how much cash was stolen in the raid.
Store owner Abdul Beydoun said: 'We're lucky it happened early in the morning and there weren't any customers around.
'We're glad nobody got hurt.'
He added: 'We never have problems here, everybody is nice. Whoever did this, they've done it last week down the street so everyone has to be careful. It's very disturbing.'
Charge: The pick-up truck is seen here driving towards the building for the first time
Shaking: After the first ram, one of the raiders is here seen trying to lift the ATM machine out of the wall
Making off: The raiders are pictured dragging the ATM machine across the courtyard of the petrol station
The men, who were caught on CCTV camera during the raid, arrived at the station on the 10,000 block of East Jefferson Ave in separate vehicles at 5.45am.
A spotter van parked up by one of the pumps before a pick-up van rammed into the building. One of the men ran into the store to try and pull the ATM out from the wall.
Relieved: Despite the damage, owner Abdul Beydoun said he was glad no-one had been hurt in the raid
Lethal: Osama Bin Laden is pictured here with an AK-47, a weapon more normally associated with warfare than armed robberies
But his efforts proved futile, and so the pick-up rammed again. The ATM became stuck underneath the vehicle and so the men ran outside to tug it along to remove the machine.
They then tried to stuff the ATM into a conversion van but, when it did not fit, they lifted it into another waiting 94-95 green Chrysler minivan and made their getaway.
The other two vehicles were left at the scene.
Aftermath: The vehicle used to ram the station was left at the scene and is now being analysed by police officers
