Assam Rifles seizes drugs near Moreh

IMPHAL: Assam Rifles personnel have seized over 2 lakh Actifed tablets from three persons in the Khudengtabi area near Moreh town bordering Myanmar. According to drug analysts, these tablets are in demand among drug addicts and are often smuggled to Southeast Asian countries through Myanmar.

Discovering the transportation of the banned drugs, personnel of 31 Assam Rifles carried out an operation at Khudentabi along NH 39 on Monday evening, said a statement of the force.

They noticed two to three persons moving with loads on their heads away from the road. On being asked to stop, they dropped the materials and vanished in the jungles.

After a thorough search, the personnel found the tablets which were later handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau office in Imphal.

On the other hand, 42 AR organized a medical camp at Machi village in the same tribal-dominated district as a humanitarian campaign for the villagers on Tuesday. About 300 people, including children, were treated and given medical and dental advice there. The doctors briefed the villagers about the cause of various water-borne diseases and suggested precautionary measures that need to be taken.
