All States have an effective system to record finger printing of offenders: Jitendra Singh

New Delhi - Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs Jitendra Singh in written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today said all the States and UTs of the country except the UTs of Andaman and Nicobar, Daman and Diu, Dadar and Nagar Haveli and Lakshadweep, have an effective system of recording finger prints.

"24 States/UTs have computerized method (AFIS) of recording fingerprints of offenders/criminals. Seven States/UTs namely Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Manipur, Sikkim and Chandigarh have old manual method of recording fingerprints of offenders/criminals," said Jitendra Singh

"The Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and System (CCTNS), a Mission Mode Project of Ministry of Home Affairs, is being implemented by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). It seeks to connect all police offices of all States and UTs," he added.

Jitendra Singh further said the project envisages networking of criminal records at the level of police stations, district offices, state offices with a national server at NCRB.

"The implementation of this project shall ensure online access to the criminal records of the offenders," he added.
