A would-be thief got stuck inside a clothes recycling bin as he tried to steal himself a new outfit.
The 28-year-old man was trapped for four hours inside the bin at a car park in Bradley Stoke, near Bristol, after security swooped and his accomplice fled.
Firefighters were called to cut the man free when he found he was unable to climb out of the charity box.

'A 28-year-old man from Filton was arrested on suspicion of theft, interviewed and issued with a caution.'

2 DGCA officials held in Fake pilot licence scam

New Delhi, Apr 6 : Two DGCA officials have been arrested in New Delhi for allegedly helping pilots procure commercial pilot licences.

They were arrested by the crime branch of Delhi Police yesterday. The two of them were arrested for allegedly helping pilots procure commercial pilot licences.

Ashok Chand, DCP (crime), said that, with this, a total of three DGCA staffers have been arrested.

A total of 13 people including pilots have been arrested in connection with the case.

A pilot and a tout were earlier arrested from Ahmedabad by a team of Delhi Police's Crime Branch on Monday.

The arrests came following investigations into a complaint filed by DGCA. The pilots had allegedly procured commercial pilot licenses using fake documents.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation is scrutinising the licenses of 3000-4000 pilots in the wake of the fake pilot scam.

College girl raped in car by classmates

Two youths have been arrested for raping their classmate in a car and also recording the act on their mobile phones, police said today.

In her complaint filed with the police yesterday, the 18-year-old victim, a first year BA student at a college in Kursi area, alleged that Deepak Pandey and Armaan took her to a highway in their car on March 30 and raped her, SP Naveneet Kumar Rana said.

The victim also said that the duo made a video clipping of the act and threatened to circulate it through MMS if she registered a complaint, he said.

An FIR was registered against the duo who were arrested last night, the police said. Investigation in the matter is going on, they said.

Sydney : A MAN who claimed he had eaten human flesh as a child was today jailed for life for murdering his former housemate.
Robert Ian Logan, 23, was found guilty at Brisbane Supreme Court of killing Benjamin Huntingford at their home on June 21, 2006.
Logan, affected by drugs, alcohol or both, attacked Mr Huntingford and twice stabbed his pet dog "Butch" several weeks after leaving their shared accommodation following a heated argument.
He told police that he had drank Mr Huntingford's blood after killing him.
Mr Huntingford's father, Peter, said that Logan was renowned for telling "bizarre stories'' and once spoke of travelling to New Zealand as a child and eating human flesh with cannibals.
Logan, who denied the charges, shook his head in disbelief as the jury read out their verdict. At one stage he looked at his lawyers and said: "I don't understand.''
The court heard during the trial that Logan had consumed various drugs, including heroin, speed, crack and marijuana, while living with Mr Huntingford.
There was some "bad blood'' between his two housemates over the "thrashing'' of a recently purchased motorcycle.
The Crown revealed Mr Huntingford's corpse, with a pair of underpants placed over the head, was found by his housemate upon returning home from work about 6.15am.
Mr Huntingford's blood had been used to write an obscenity several times and "Where's M money'' on walls and a fridge at the blood-soaked and stained house.
Police found a bloody handprint on a door at the house and boot prints from a set of size 10 pair of "Blue Steel'' work boots belonging to Logan.
Mr Huntingford was said to have died from a "complex gaping wound'' to the neck that went from "ear to ear''.
He received 19 significant injuries in the ferocious attack - many of which are believed to have occurred after his death.
Logan told investigators his motivation for the killing was the result of an unwanted homosexual advance made by Mr Huntingford when they lived together.
"(Logan) asserted he drank some of the deceased man's blood,'' the Crown said.
Judge Julie Dick said she hoped Logan himself had read the victim impact statement from Mr Huntingford's family.
"I hope that you have read that ... to see what you have done to this family.''

New Delhi, April 4 : One more pilot was arrested for getting a license on forged documents, Delhi Police said Monday.

"The pilot has been identified as Abhinav Kaushik from IndiGo airline. He has been arrested for forging his marksheet to obtain a commercial pilot license," said a senior police official.

At least six pilots have been arrested for fake licenses after the the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) began scanning over 3,000 pilots for submitting forged marksheets.

A village postmistress allegedly murdered by her husband in a faked armed robbery had three relationships with men in three months, a court heard yesterday.
Diana Garbutt, 40, had a drunken one night stand with a stranger, helped break up her cousin’s marriage by having a ‘special’ relationship with her husband and had sexually explicit chats on Facebook with a villager she went on long bike rides with.
Robin Garbutt, 45, who has been accused of battering his wife to death as she slept, was ‘just not interested in sex,’ Teesside Crown Court was told.
Instead of focusing on his struggling marriage, he devoted his efforts to running the shop and post office in Melsonby, North Yorkshire.
With their relationship in trouble Mrs Garbutt turned to other men for affection, the jury was told.
In December 2008 the couple visited a friend in York for a night out and stayed at the house he shared with two male tenants.
One of the men, John Illingworth, told how he returned to the house after an evening drinking and had more drinks with the Garbutts, who came back at a similar time with their friend.
Eventually everyone had gone to bed except Mr Illingworth and Mrs Garbutt. Asked what happened between them, he said: ’We were intimate on the settee.’

He said they had ‘both had a lot to drink’ and he wasn’t certain how far they went.
Asked if they had sex, he replied:’It was very cloudy. I assumed we probably did.’
A day later she spoke to Mr Illingworth on the phone because she had left a pair of shoes behind and said she had ‘told’ her husband about what happened between them.

The following month Mrs Garbutt began spending a lot of time with local resident Craig Hall, who was in the process of getting a divorce.
They went on bike rides together in the countryside and would ‘chat’ on Facebook late into the night.

Mr Hall said Mrs Garbutt admitted she was ‘going through a bit of a rough patch’ in her marriage. She told him ‘Robin seemed to be more shop than relationship.’
He said they had discussed the possibility of splitting up. Mr Garbutt offered to pay the rent on a house in the village where Mrs Garbutt could live alone.
Asking what the problem was in the Garbutts’ marriage, Mr Hall said:’The sex. Robin just was not interested.’
He admitted they would have conversations about sex over the internet and he would say things to her like ‘alright loser, did you get it last night?’ Mr Hall described their computer chats as ‘cheeky banter’ and denied trying to have an affair with her.
Mrs Garbutt was also becoming increasingly close with Kevin Heapey, the husband of her cousin Angela. Both couples attended a family 40th birthday celebration in North Wales in March 2009.
Several of them had gone out drinking and Mr Heapey and Mrs Garbutt were the last ones out. He said they walked home together after 3.30am. ‘On the way home we had a kiss,’ he said.
Mr Heapey said his wife was waiting for him and they had a row in the kitchen and the following day he admitted kissing Mrs Garbutt.
Mr Heapey said his wife made him phone Mr Garbutt to apologise and explain what had happened. Mr Garbutt appeared ‘confused’ and told him: 'Let’s leave it at that.’
Mr Heapey said he had no further contact with Mrs Garbutt but he and his wife did eventually separate.

The court heard Mrs Garbutt wrote Mr Heapey a letter. In it she told him:’I thought that your marriage was doomed and mine too.’ Adding: ’What we had was special.’
‘I feel like I have been living in a fantasy world that I have created and totally indulged in.’
She told him they should be ‘just friends’ and ‘anything sexual should be off limits.’
And she told Mr Heapey if his marriage broke up ‘I am sure my feelings are going nowhere and we can maybe start over without the emotional baggage.’
Garbutt denies murdering his wife in March 2010. The court has heard he was living beyond his means and had built up £30,000 in credit card debts.
Garbutt is alleged to have bludgeoned his wife with an iron bar and blamed an armed robber he claimed escaped with around £16,000 from the post office safe.
No witnesses saw anyone suspicious leave the shop at a busy time of day and the prosecution claim the robbery never happened.

Contract killer killed Monica by mistake: police

New Delhi: In a major breakthrough in the Nagpur college student Monica Kirnapure's murder case, the Nagpur Police, on Friday, arrested one person, claimed to be the contract killer.

The police said that Santosh Sonekar was paid to kill Monica's friend, who had rejected a boy's proposal, but killed Monica by mistake as the faces of both of them were covered with scarves.

Monica, an engineering student was killed on March 11 in broad daylight when she was on her way to her college.

Nagpur police commissioner Ankush Dhanvijay, "So far we have not only collected all the circumstantial evidence, but also the evidence that satisfies us that they are the real culprits."

Domestic help arrested for murdering employer in Rohini

New Delhi: A domestic help has been arrested from Bihar for allegedly murdering his 42-year-old employer in Rohini, police said on Friday.

"Arjun (name changed) was arrested from Hajipur railway station when he was fleeing to his native place in West Bengal on Avadh Assam Express," Chhaya Sharma, DCP outer district, said, adding that Rs. 25,000 were recovered from his possession.

On Tuesday, Pramila Shukla was found murdered at her residence in Rohini while her domestic help had gone missing. During interrogation, Arjun said that he was sent to Shukla 20 days ago by a West Punjabi Bagh based placement agency. The accused had asked Rs. 1,000 from Shukla to go to his native place bust she had refused saying that she had already paid a huge amount to the agency.

"He had seen the landlady keeping a large amount of cash in the almirah. Since he wanted to go to his native place and had no money to travel, he conspired to kill her and steal the cash she had kept in the almirah," police said.

On Tuesday morning, Arjun was asked to fill the water tank. Later, he attacked Shukla in her sleep with a handle of a handpump. He hid her body behind the sofa and removed the blood stains. The body was later found by her son.

Arjun took Rs. 25,000 from the almirah and went straight to the railway station after leaving the house with his bag. He also said that somewhere in UP, the ticket checker asked him to get down from the train as he was travelling without a ticket.

Later, he took a train to West Bengal but was caught by police midway, Sharma said.

Police had contacted the placement agency from where the servant was hired and took his address and photograph.

A TEACHER fled a top private boys' schools in tears after discovering pupils there were sharing topless pictures of her on their mobile phones.
The risqué images of art teacher Joanne Salley, 32, in just a tight pair of jeans were discovered by a pupil at Harrow in London on a memory stick left in the school's photo lab.
Ms Salley, a former model who used to date England rugby star Matt Dawson, was humiliated when she found out that pupils had been sharing them on their mobile phones.
The pictures had been shot by the school's head of photography, professional photographer Fiona Corthine.
In one Ms Salley is draped over a bookcase. In another she stares straight at the camera.
The pictures are believed to have been taken in the school's art rooms.
They circulated so fast that nearly all 825 students saw them.
"They went around like wildfire. Everyone was texting or bluetoothing them. She must be the most popular teacher in Harrow's history," said one pupil
Barnaby Leon, head teacher at the £30,000-a-year ($46,570) school, said: "The pictures were stolen without the agreement of the photographer, who holds the copyright.
"Joanna was understandably very upset."
Pupils were told to delete the pictures from their phones and told they would be suspended if they were caught with them again. Embarrassingly for Ms Salley, the pictures have since made their way onto the internet.

FIVE police officers have been detained after Brazilian television released amateur video that shows officers repeatedly shooting a 14-year-old boy.
The boy survived but was seriously wounded.
The attack in Manaus, capital of the northern state of Amazonas, took place on August 17, 2010, just outside the victim's house, lead prosecutor Joao Bosco Valente said.

But the case didn't come to light until the video was broadcast by several television stations on Wednesday night.

The boy's family, the man who shot the video, and a reporter who first saw the footage, did not report the alleged crime for fear of retaliation from the police, Mr Valente said.

The victim's family was so afraid it moved to a different neighbourhood, he said. The videographer finally released the video to TV stations.
Police in Manaus did not immediately return calls for comment.

In the soundless footage, five police officers are seen forming a semi-circle around the slight teenager and backing him up against the wall of his own home.

The officers start pushing the boy around, eventually taking close-range shots at him as he scoots along the wall.

He is seen sinking down to the ground as the officers try to lead him away.

Although it can't be heard, the boy's mother began screaming for help in the background when she found out what was happening, Mr Valente said.

The prosecutor said the officers allegedly involved in the shooting told him they were asking the minor about a gun used in a crime in the neighbourhood.

Mr Valente did not say if they gave an explanation for why they began to shoot the teen. He added that the boy had no criminal record.

The boy was hit five times, Mr Valente said. He spent 10 days in a hospital, according to the prosecutor's spokeswoman, Cristina Magda Pereira Goes.

One of the shots punctured his lung, requiring him to spend two days in the intensive care unit, Ms Pereira said. "He didn't die because of sheer luck," she said.

No details of his other injuries were released. Authorities also withheld the minor's name and the names of the officers, who have not yet been charged.

The boy and his family have been put in a witness-protection program, Mr Valente said.

"They only felt safe when they were entered into the program, and were told the officers would be detained," he said. "What these officers did was barbaric. They completely ignored the basic task of police, which is to protect the public."

A British accountant and his Filipina girlfriend have been charged with the kidnap and murder of a six year old girl snatched from outside a school for their 'cyber-sex' business.
Ian Charles Griffiths, 48, from south west London and his 35-year-old girlfriend Bella Santos are alleged to have taken the child on the Phillipines island of Cebu to make porn videos.
Police in Cebu City say the couple kidnapped six-year-old Ellah Joy Pique so they could exploit her as part of their online sex operation.

The girl's body was found at the foot of a cliff on February 8 the same day the couple left Cebu on a flight bound for Hong Kong.
Both are reported to have since returned to Cebu but Griffiths again left the country after police closed their investigation into another couple suspected of the kidnap and killing.
Investigators had been concentrating their attention on a Norwegian man and his partner for the same offence. They have ruled them out.
Warrants were today issued for both Griffiths, who is believed to be in Hong Kong, and Santos, currently in Makati, a district of Manila.
Police said they have witnesses who allege that they saw Griffiths in his car at the cliffside.
They say he was seen getting out of the vehicle, opening the back door before removing something wrapped in a white fabric that he then dropped off a nearby cliff.
They also allege that a woman was with Griffiths but they couldn't make out who she was because she slid down inside the car.
Fermin Ar-mendarez III, head of the Criminal Investigation and Detection team, said: 'It appears that Pique was abducted by Santos and Griffiths for the purpose of exploiting the victim for the suspects' cybersex business.'
Police believe that their plan went wrong, leading them to kill her and dump her lifeless body over the cliff.
Santos, a former bar girl on the Philippines island of Palawan has denied all charges.
She told the Cebu Daily News: 'I have been tossing and turning and have not been able to sleep or eat. I do not know why I have been accused of this crime.'
She added that she was not ashamed of her work because it enabled her to eat fast food, but hoped her past under the name Chloe was not brought up against her.
Immigration officer Casimiro Madarang said that even though a case had been filed against Griffiths, there is nothing stopping him from leaving the country.
He said: 'At present, Griffiths and Santos can still travel freely because there is no basis to hold them at the airport. We can only prevent them from departing if there is a court order.'
Ellah Joy's father, Renante Pique, said he hoped the case against the pair would be successful and urged other parents to come forward to end human trafficking and child abuse.
Among the witnesses are two children, aged nine and 12, who were walking with the little girl on her way home from school when a dark car stopped to talk to them.
Inside, it is alleged, was a 'big male foreigner' and a woman who offered Ellah Joy a ride.
According to officials Griffiths had visited Cebu frequently since 2006 and over the last year he had checked in and out 17 times - each time accompanied by Santos.

National panel needed to tackle cyber crime, say experts

New Delhi, Apr 1 : Cyber crime is a major area of concern for corporates, industry experts said Friday and called for creating a national-level agency to evolve a fine balance between cyber data protection and privacy of individuals.

"Cyber secrecy and network security are extremely relevant in today's context," said Pawan Duggal, chairman of Assocham's cyber law committee.

"Both the requirements of national sovereign government as those of balancing the needs of data protection and privacy have to be appropriately addressed," he added.

He also emphasised the need to ensure that relevant stake-holders are not burdened with costs of compliance in a manner that makes it difficult for them to run a business.

Bhamathi, additional secretary in the home ministry, said the government is working on a Rs.2,000 crore criminal tracking network project which is aimed at seamless connectivity among 16,000 police stations across the country, allowing them to share information on crimes and criminals in real-time.

She said risks in cyber space have the potential to damage national security, businesses and individual civil liberties. "Cyber security can be achieved if interwoven with corporate governance."

Peter Swire, professor at Moritz College of Law at Ohio State University, US, emphasised the vital role of data encryption in safeguarding the digital economy.

Strong encryption is feasible and is the correct answer as fast innovations take place, said Swire, who was earlier special assistant to US President Barack Obama.

US cops relieved of duties over claims of sexual assault, strip poker game

Washington, Apr 1 : Two policemen in the US were relieved of their duties after a woman claimed that they sexually assaulted her after a game of strip poker.

According to a police report, the Chicago cops first noticed the 22-year-old woman on a sidewalk crying after she left a male friend's home where they had been drinking and arguing, Fox News reported.

The officers then allegedly offered her a ride home in their marked SUV, where the woman said she had sex with one cop during the trip.

At her apartment, the woman said she played strip poker with the two cops - but felt intimidated by their sexual advances and ended up having sex with another officer.

She then pounded for help on a neighbour's door, who later opened it to see a naked man running down the hallway and a uniformed officer walking away.

The woman was sent to the hospital for treatment. A criminal investigation is under way.

Vaibhav Sarode (24), the suspect arrested in the Hinjewadi MMS clip case, was arrested in another rape case registered with the Nigdi police by a 19-year-old girl. Sarode was arrested on March 25 by the Hinjewadi police following leads during the interrogation of a 19-year-old, Shailesh Modgule from Gaurwadi, the prime suspect involved in filming couples on mobile phone, while forcing them to have sex.

The complainant of the newly registered case has stated that in November 2007, Sarode had forced her to have sex in a car at the parking lot of Ganesh Vision theatre in Akurdi. "Sarode gave me some soft drink after consuming which I felt unconscious.

Sarode then raped me and made an MMS clip of the act. He threatened me that he would show the clip to his friends and broadcast it over television. He used the clip as a blackmailing tool. Later also Sarode invited me to his house and raped me several times at different locations in another car," the girl mentioned in her complaint.

Sarode has been arrested by the Nigdi police in this case under section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and section 67 of the Information Technology Act. Sarode's custody was transferred to the Nigdi police as he was currently lodged at the Yerawada jail in connection with the Hinjewadi case. Police Inspector R P Kunte is investigating the case.

Indian man imprisoned for visa fraud in US

Boston: An Indian businessman has been sentenced to prison in California on charges he fraudulently tried to get H-1B work visas for workers from India to fill non-existent jobs in the US.

Srinivasa Chennupati has been sentenced to six months in prison and three years of supervised release for making false statements on 11 applications for the high-technology worker visas, the Department of Justice said in a statement.

33-year-old Chennupati had pleaded guilty in December 2010 to visa fraud charges.

According to the plea agreement, Chennupati admitted that he had submitted 11 foreign worker petitions in 2009 to the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) that contained counterfeit job offer letters from companies including the Gap Corporation, Wells Fargo Bank and Genentech.

He had falsely stated on the foreign worker petitions that he had 11 jobs available from these companies.

The Justice Department added that no work visas were issued from Chennupati's 11 fraudulent applications.

The jobs listed in the petitions were for computer systems analysts and software engineers, who would be paid between $60,000 and $65,000, according to court records.

Chennupati came to the US in 2001 on a work visa.

The case arose "when the defendant, in a misguided attempt to raise more money to support his parents," branched out from his regular employment and started a second business.

He opened a separate business as a headhunter for employers in the US, matching them with potential employees in India who would receive H-1B visas.

The USCIS begins accepting petitions for H-1B visa, the highly sought-after US work visa among Indians, on April 1 for the next federal fiscal year that begins on October 1.
