A Bangladeshi woman cut off a man’s penis to thwart an alleged rape attempt and took it to the police as evidence.
Monju Begum, 40, attacked the man in Bangladesh after he burst into her shack and launched his sex attack.
The victim then wrapped up the manhood in polythene before handing it over to officers, police said.
Mozammel Haq Mazi was rushed to hospital where he is being treated, but is denying attempted rape.
The married father-of-five claimed that he was having an affair with the mother-of-three and that she attacked him because he refused to settle down with her.
“We were having an affair and recently she suggested that both of us can go and settle down in Dhaka,” the Daily Mail quoted Mazi as telling the BBC.
“I refused and told her that I cannot leave my wife and children, so she took revenge on me,” he said.
Begum, from Mirzapur, which is around 100 miles from Dhaka, had apparently been sleeping when the man burst into her home.
Surgeons later tried to re-attach the penis but they were unable to do so because several hours had passed before it was taken to the hospital.

Cops bust gang that stole 85 bikes in three months
NEW DELHI: Police have busted a gang of motorcycle thieves in south Delhi which stole bikes in Delhi, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh and disposed them of in Lillong, Manipur, by transporting these through railway booking. One of the gang members, identified as 29-year-old H M Burhanuddin, a resident of Lillong in Manipur's Thoubal district, was arrested on May 22 from Arjun Nagar T-point when he came to dispose of a bike stolen from Mayur Vihar on the same day.
With his arrest, 33 stolen motorcycles were recovered and 69 cases were worked out, said cops. One of the accused gang members has been identified as Surender Sharma, a railway agent at Old Delhi railway station, according to police. Burhanuddin also disclosed the names of his associates, including that of gang leader Majid Ali alias Shana and Gaffar.
"Police have recovered 33 stolen motorcycles from Burhanuddin, an active member of Shana gang of Northeast region, and also worked out 69 cases of motor vehicle theft in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttrakhand," said Chhaya Sharma, DCP (south).
During questioning, the accused admitted that he was a member of Shana gang, which is involved in auto-lifting across the three states. The other members used to take the delivery of motorcycles from Dimapur railway station in Nagaland for further disposal in various parts of Manipur and Nagaland. The accused disclosed about the booking of several motorcycles recently from Bhiwani railway station to transport them to Nagaland.
Police have recovered a luggage ticket (bilty) of motorcycle booked from Bhiwani railway station to Dimapur, Nagaland, from Burhanuddin's house in Uttam Nagar.
The accused also said that the gang has booked several motorcycles recently from Bhiwani railway station for transporting them to Nagaland. As per the record of the parcel office at Bhiwani station, the gang has transported as many as 85 bikes — mostly stolen from Safdarjung Enclave, Hauz Khas, Sainik Farm and Daryaganj — from Bhiwani to Dimapur in the past three months.
Police also recovered 20 stolen bikes from Old Delhi station which were to be loaded onto Brahamputra Mail. The gang used to steal motorcycles early in the morning, preferably of red colour as these are in great demand in Manipur.
"They used to deliver the stolen bikes to other members on the directions of gang leader Shana, who prepared forged documents using fake numbers of Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana," Sharma said, adding that efforts are on to nab Shana and other members.

Spot the difference? The strange case of the criminal doppelgängers that sparked the need for fingerprinting
By Ted Thornhill
They looked identical and even shared the same name, but the two prisoners pictured were actually different people and their remarkable case helped bring in the era of fingerprint identification.
The man above was called Will West, the man below William West, and they were both sentenced to jail at Leavenworth Penitentiary in Kansas over 100 years ago.
The arrival of Will West in 1903 caused the records clerk at the prison considerable confusion, because he was convinced he'd processed him two years previously.
Where there's a Will: In 1903 Will West arrived at Leavenworth Penitentiary in Kansas, where the records clerk was certain that he'd seen him before
Where there's another Will: The record clerk pulled out this file photo of William West, who looked almost identical to Will West
The clerk, M.W. McClaughry, asked Will West if he’d ever been to the prison before.
West said he hadn’t.
McClaughry then set about taking his Bertillon measurements – named after the French policeman Alphonse Bertillon – which was the usual method of identifying people and involved recording the dimensions of key physical features.
The first type occurs when the skin of a finger contaminated with something makes contact with the surface of an object, leaving a ‘ridge impression’ that can be seen with the naked eye.
Plastic prints are also visible to the naked eye and occur when finger leaves an indentation in a soft material.
The third type is a latent print, which can normally only be seen with enhancement - a special powder, for instance. Latent prints come about from the finger secreting sweat onto an object, which leaves an invisible pattern on it.
Every finger has a different pattern of ridges on it that investigators analyse and so far no two fingerprints among the billions recorded have ever been found to be the same.
McClaughry, still convinced the man before him had already been to the prison, looked up his name in his filing system and found one William West – who looked identical to Will West in the photographs in every respect.
They even shared the same Bertillon measurements.
But Will West insisted to McClaughry that it was not him: ‘That’s my picture, but I don’t know where you got it, for I know I have never been here before.’
To McClaughry's shock, he was absolutely right, too. William West was a different person altogether and in fact had been admitted to the prison two years previously for murder.
The case highlighted the flaws in the Bertillon method and it wasn’t long before the U.S authorities turned to fingerprinting.
Its pioneer was Scotland Yard’s Sgt. John K. Ferrier, who met McClaughry at the St Louis World Fair in 1904 while he was guarding the Crown Jewels, which were on tour.
He told the U.S prison officer how Scotland Yard had been using fingerprinting for the past three years and evangelised its accuracy.
McClaughry was sold, and after being instructed on the technique he introduced it to Leavenworth Prison. America’s first national fingerprint repository was established shortly afterwards.
The use of fingerprints had actually begun in 1858 with Sir William James Herschel, Chief Magistrate of the Hooghly district in Jungipoor, India, who asked locals to stamp their business contracts with their palms. However, he did this on a hunch that it would be a good way of identifying someone, not because he knew the science behind it.

Nine people have been arrested in the case so far. Cops say some senior I-T officials may be involved
Getting a refund from the I-T department is a moment of ecstasy for every taxpayer. But what if you hadn't filed a return in the first place? A huge scam has been unearthed in the Income Tax department resulting in a loss of crores of rupees to the exchequer. Three employees hacked the password of an Additional Commissioner of the department, Manish Gupta, and were issuing refund cheques to their accomplices without them having filed their Income Tax Returns (ITRs). Police said that the forgery and cheating was being committed for the past several years.

Nine persons including three data entry operators, a Chartered Accountant (CA), and a south Delhi resident have been arrested in this connection so far. Police have registered four separates FIRs and are expecting to lodge more cases in coming days. Cops said that more than a hundred people may be arrested in the coming days as the probe into the scam is revealing murky details every day.
Easy money
A south Delhi resident Dinesh Chand Saxena with an annual income of around one crore rupees had to file his ITR when he came in contact with a CA, Jaspreet, who assured him of huge refunds. Jaspreet introduced Saxena to two data entry operators of Income Tax department Aslender Rathore and Ranjeev Mehto who demanded 25 per cent from the refund money. Saxena agreed to their condition.
He then handed over his
TDS related documents, a photocopy of his PAN card and other documents to Jaspreet. Aslender and Ranjeev cracked the password of additional commissioner, Manish Gupta and showed in their records that Dinesh Chand Saxena had been filing his ITR for the past three years while no refund cheques had been issued to him. On the basis of this fabricated data five separate cheques with a face value of six lakh fifty eight thousand were issued by the tax department to Saxena and the amount was credited to his account.

Greed isn't good: Some of the accused who've been arrested.
Caught at last
"An income tax official Pratap Chauhan discovered this fraud during an inspection of the refund status BCP system," said a police official. Chauhan contacted Saxena who denied having any documentary proof of filing returns for the past three years. The official then contacted the police following which two separate FIRs were lodged and five persons were arrested. Four more people were arrested on Sunday. They have been identified as Chandresh Yadav, Pankaj, Yogesh Bhargava and Manish, all east Delhi residents. The total number of people arrested has reached nine.
Bigger fish involved?
Cops are suspecting that apart from data entry operators, senior officials attached with the I-T department are hand-in-glove with the culprits. "A departmental inquiry is being conducted by I-T officials in this respect. Police will arrest anyone, even if it's a highly-placed official, if his complicity is proved," said a police official.
Mail trouble
The Income Tax department recently cautioned people not to respond to fraudulent emails, which use its official logo and ask for sensitive details like PAN card and credit card numbers. The department has issued the advisory as it received numerous enquiries from various quarters, seeking clarifications on such deceptive emails. "It is clarified that the Income Tax department does not send e-mails regarding refunds and does not seek any information regarding credit cards of taxpayers. Taxpayers are, therefore, cautioned that they should not respond to such mails and if they do so it would be at their own risk and responsibility," the IT department has said in a public notice.
Faking it
In a major operation in March, the Tax department of the Delhi government unearthed a "huge scam" involving nearly 1,300 "bogus traders" who used to claim Value Added Tax (VAT) refunds by showing bogus bills and fake sells. The Value added tax department had launched a probe discretely choosing nearly 3,000 traders in the city, each having an yearly turn over of Rs one crore and found that nearly one-third of them were either fake or non-functional. "The figure is astonishing. We found out that almost one-third of the total newly registered traders were either bogus or non-functional. We have issued notices to them," a top official of VAT department said. Explaining the modus operandi, the official said these traders, without doing any business, seek VAT refunds from the government by preparing bogus invoices and fake sells. "We have found out 1,277 traders who are fake or non-functional. Basically they were living off the government without doing anything," the official said.

Delhi man gets lifer in ‘honour killing’ case
New Delhi: Observing that society needs to change its mindset and stop "honour killing", a Delhi court has sentenced a man to life term for smothering to death his daughter who had eloped with a boy of her own village.
"Whether there is any honour in killing a person or whether honour is saved by killing a person is a question to be probed by the society. The incidents like one in hand would continue unless the mindset of the society is changed," Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Sanjay Sharma said, while sentencing Karkardooma village resident Omkar of East Delhi.
"The time has come that we should respect the sentiments of our younger generation rather than impose our will upon them. A forced marriage is bound to destruct the families and can never succeed," the court said.
Lamenting that the malady of casteism continues to plague the society and its mindset, the court said, "It is a well known phenomenon that even now, after so much of modernisation and achievements in academic fields, the votes in elections are sought on the basis of religion and castes."
The court ruling came on a case dating back to March 3, 2009, when Omkar had murdered his daughter, who was in love with Sandeep of her village, belonging to same community and sub-caste (gotra).
The girl had eloped with Sandeep on March 2, 2009 to get married and stayed at his sister's place for a night. An infuriated Omkar, however, managed to get his daughter back home from Sandeep, falsely promising him and his sister's family members that he had given consent to the marriage, but needed to speak to her for 30 minutes before deciding upon it.
Omkar took her daughter away even as she pleaded that her family members would kill her. According to the prosecution, Omkar and other family members, after getting the girl back home began beating her, drugged her and eventually smothered her to death.
In his deposition to the court, Sandeep detailed the whole incident, adding, the girl was reluctant to return home as she feared she would be killed. As per the prosecution, the girl was taken to hospital by her family members, but was declared brought dead there.
This led to registration of a First Information Report at Anand Vihar police station in East Delhi. The subsequent autopsy of the girl and probe into the case revealed what the court described as a case of honour killing.
While convicting Omkar, the court dismissed defence counsel's contention that the girl had committed suicide by consuming drug. The court, however, did not impose death penalty upon Omkar saying it was not a rarest of rare crime and also taking into account the defence pleas for leniency.
"Omkar could not overcome his emotions and feeling of social unrest because of the fact that his own daughter spent a night with a boy of his own community and belonging to his own village and thus, the act, though done with intention and knowledge, was done more in a rage than in a planned manner," the court said.

Mexico Detains Nearly 50 Members Of La Familia And Zetas Drug Cartels
By GUSTAVO RUIZ
MORELIA, Mexico -- Mexico's federal police detained nearly 50 members of two major drug cartels, including suspects in the recent armed attack on a police helicopter, authorities said Saturday.
The suspects include 36 members of the La Familia cartel and 10 members of the Zetas drug gang, the federal police said in a statement.
La Familia gang members were detained in connection with the attack on a federal police helicopter Tuesday that wounded two officers and forced the craft to land. The statement said 11 other alleged cartel members were killed during the operation Friday night in the Pacific Coast state of Jalisco.
Authorities added that the 10 Zeta members were detained Friday at a ranch in Cancun, where a kidnapping victim was found and released.
Along with the 36 La Familia members, police seized over 70 rifles, 20,000 weapon cartridges, three grenades and 14 handguns in an air and land raid that left two officers injured.
Federal Police Commissioner Facundo Rosas said the mass detention has delivered a blow to a top leader of La Familia, Jose de Jesus Mendez Vargas, the alleged leader of the detained suspects.
"His group has been weakened, which is why we don't rule out the possibility that (Mendez Vargas) will look to other criminal organizations for support," Rosas said during a news conference.
Rosas said Mendez Vargas is locked in a confrontation with The Knights Templar, a rival faction of La Familia. The Knights' split from the cartel is believed to be the source of a recent surge in violence in the western state of Michoacan.
The increase in cartel firefights and clashes with police in the state prompted frightened villagers to flee outlying hamlets and seek shelter in town centers earlier this week.
Since then, all 3,500 rural residents who had sought refuge in churches, schools and recreation centers in Apatzingan and Buenavista Tomatlan have returned home, said Michoacan state Civil Defense Director Carlos Mandujano. The makeshift shelters were dismantled Saturday, he added.
However, 1,000 federal police and armed forces deployed earlier in the week to patrol trouble spots and calm fears will stay at their posts until further notice, military authorities say.
In a separate incident, an Air Force helicopter crashed Saturday near the same violence-plagued Michoacan city of Apatzingan where the first helicopter had been shot on Tuesday, the Defense Department said in a statement.
This time, however, the crash was an accident caused by apparent mechanical failure and is being investigated, the Defense Department said. The pilot and co-pilot suffered minor injuries when the chopper went down in a wooded area shortly after lifting off from a local Army base.
Mercy plea rejected, Assam killer set to be hanged
Guwahati, May 29 : Fifteen years after he walked into a police station with a severed head and blood dripping sword in his hand, Mahendra Nath Das is now all set to be sent to the gallows with his mercy petition rejected by President Pratibha Patil.
Das, now aged 49, is lodged at the Jorhat Jail in eastern Assam with preparations on at the prison for his execution.
‘Already, we have started preparations for the execution, but we need to get a hangman from either Bihar or Uttar Pradesh as we don’t have anyone here in Assam,’ a jail official said.
April 24, 1996. Time around 7 a.m. Das entered the Fancy Bazar police outpost in the heart of Assam’s Guwahati city with a severed head and the blood dripping weapon before placing it on the verandah. He was immediately arrested and a sessions court in 1997 sentenced him to death.
Das, in a fit of anger, murdered 68-year-old Harakanta Das, then secretary of the Guwahati Truck Drivers Association while he was sipping his morning cup of tea at a roadside stall accompanied by at least half-a-dozen other acquaintances.
‘The appellant amputated the right hand and thereafter severed the head of Harakanta Das. With the head of the deceased in one hand and the blood dripping weapon in the other hand, he moved majestically towards Fancy Bazar police outpost,’ the court ruling sentencing Das to death read.
Thereafter, a long drawn legal battle ensued, with the now 74-year-old mother of Mahendra Nath Das appealing for mercy.
‘I am still hopeful and pray my son’s death sentence is reversed and made into life imprisonment,’ said his mother Kusumbala Das, currently bedridden with old age ailments at her village home in Bohori in the western Barpeta district.
But the victim’s son Amal Das, a businessman, is praying for justice to be delivered.
‘I am looking for that day when he is hanged until death,’ Amal told IANS as tears welled up in his eyes as he recollected the ghastly incident narrated to him earlier by witnesses.
But the condemned prisoner said in December while being brought for health checkup at the Gauhati Medical College that he was not given a fair trial.
‘I have no regrets for killing him as they attempted to take my life. I already completed 14 years in prison and then why should there be double punishment for me now. I was not given a fair trial,’ Mahendra Nath Das had said.
‘I should not be hanged as I already completed life imprisonment term of 14 years in jail.’
Even as preparations are on for the execution, rights groups have questioned the concept of capital punishment.
‘Reports that India will execute two men (Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar and Mahendra Nath Das) after an encouraging seven-year hiatus are hugely disappointing, and would be a step backwards for human rights in the country,’ Amnesty International’s Asia-Pacific Director Sam Zarifi said in a statement.
‘For India to revive capital punishment now would also be bucking the global trend towards abolition of the death penalty, with numbers of executions continuing to decline,’ Zarifi added.
Bhullar was sentenced to death in 2001 for plotting terror attacks that killed nine people in Delhi in 1993.
Although India voted against the resolution for a moratorium on the use of the death penalty, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2007, 2008 and 2010, President Patil had commuted the death sentences of 20 prisoners since November 2009, an Amnesty report claimed.
The last execution in India was carried out in Kolkata in August 2004 when Dhananjoy Chatterjee was hanged for raping and killing a school girl.
Das, now aged 49, is lodged at the Jorhat Jail in eastern Assam with preparations on at the prison for his execution.

Now porn star claims to have enjoyed threesome with 'gentle and sweet' DSK after meeting him in strip club
- She nicknamed him 'Genghis' Khan after ruthless Mongolian warlord
- He's just a libertine, she said
Natasha Kiss, 38, who has starred in dozens of erotic films, said Strauss-Khan was 'gentle and sweet' adding that she remembered him most for 'his cuddles'.
Miss Kiss described how she has met the Frenchman at a private members strip club in Paris and how she had nicknamed him Ghengis Khan - the ruthless 12th century Mongol warlord emperor.
Kiss and tell: Italian porn star Natasha Kiss, 38, claims to have had a threesome with former IMF chief Dominque Strauss-Kahn
The actress, whose real name is Michelle Conti, described her meeting with Strauss-Khan in an interview with leading Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sera.
She said: 'I thought long and hard about speaking. When I saw him in the newspapers and on the television, treated worse than a killer, then I decided to speak out.
'We met in a private club in Paris four or five years ago.
'He shook my hand and very clearly said his name. I nicknamed him Genghis Khan - the only difference between then and now is his hair, it was speckled now its whiter.
'He was in the club like everyone else there, he wanted to have a drink, a dance and if you feel like it go off with someone.
'In Paris, like everywhere else in the world, you can decide at any moment to flirt - not like Italy.'
Bailed: Dominique Strauss-Kahn, pictured today in Manhattan, is accused of trying to rape a housemaid
When asked why Strauss-Khan had begun to flirt with her, Miss Kiss, who boasts on her website that 'sex is her reason for living' said: 'He was very sweet. I was with friends and he was on his own.
'He tried to attract the attention of an older distinguished lady but she gave him a look which said she was not interested so he just smiled back at her.
'He tried with others but with no luck. What attracted me to him was the fact he was such a gentleman despite all the rebuttals he got. He then approached me and he got it together with a friend and myself.'
Defending his honour: Natasha Kiss, pictured on her website, says it is 'disgusting' what Strauss-Khan has been put through
Miss Kiss, who says on her website she makes porn movies 'for passion not the money' adding she likes 'extreme sex' went on: 'He wasn't randy or woman hungry like people are making him out.
'He was very gentle, educated and not a dribbling dog as can often happen - in fact he treated us both very sweetly, he cuddled me and that's what stuck in my mind.
'I was in Paris for a week and I went to that club every night - he came three or four times. One evening he came really late, we chatted for a bit then we all went back home to sleep.'
When asked what her impression of Strauss-Khan was she said: 'I have no doubt that he is a very nice person, it's disgusting what he is being put through.
'Dominique does not need to rape a woman - if he wants he can just pay an escort or do as he did in Paris and go to a private club to enjoy himself for a bit. He is just a libertine.
'I know men. The emotional sexual side, if it's like that is like that. He is not violent, the picture that has been described of him is not him, as I say I still remember his cuddles.'
Miss Kiss has made five pornographic movies and is now a director. She was nominated in 2004 for a prize at the Barcelona Erotic Film Festival losing out to Anastasia Mayo.
Last week former madam Kristin Davis, whose escort service also catered to the former governor of New York, Eliot Spitzer, said she provided prostitutes for Strauss-Khan in 2006 when he was France’s presidential nomination as a Socialist.

She was angry over his extramarital affairs
An Afghan model who was allegedly having extramarital affair with several women was beaten up by his wife, a 23-year-old budding TV actress, and neighbours on Monday night. A complaint was also lodged against the model with the police. The woman, Salina Wali Khan is a native of Rampur in Uttar Pradesh and resides in Badarpur area in the Capital. She has been acting and modelling for last six years and had married the Afghan model, Arjun Sadi Khan who was also Mr Kabul, early this year.

Odd couple: Arjun Sadi Khan

'Save other women'
Speaking with the MiD DAY, Salina said that she did this to save other women from falling prey to her husband's evil designs as he used to first establish physical relations with the women and then dump them. "Initially, I believed Arjun when he told me that he had entered into a contract marriage with a woman only to extend his visa in India and after that he had divorced her. But later I found that he used to talk regularly with her. Apart from that woman, another one named Shobha also claimed to be his wife and she used to call me and him. When I asked Arjun to cut off all ties with these women, he refused and said that Indian women were meant to use and throw," said Salina.
The actress had met Arjun for the first time during a shoot in New Delhi. Later, Arjun proposed her and both decided to get married. Their marriage was solemnised at a mosque in Nizamuddin area on April 7.
"Four days after our marriage, Arjun told me not to disclose to anyone that we were married. When I asked him the reason, he said he wanted to make more girlfriends. I was surprised by his blunt talk. Meanwhile, I was getting calls from Shobha and other women who were claiming to be Arjun's wives. We again had an argument when during a shooting, I called him my husband," said Salina.
No change
Salina claimed that despite getting him some work in India, he did not mend his ways. So she finally decided to teach him a lesson and on Monday went to his house in Dwarak sector 19 along with some neighbours and thrashed him. Meanwhile, Arjun said that Salina was doing all this because he wanted to divorce her. On the contrary, Salina said that she will not divorce him at any coast. "My life has been ruined by him. I will not let him spoil lives of others," she added.

Liquor bottles found at JJ OT
Nurse in charge of the neurosurgery OT claims it is a conspiracy
Can you imagine if the scene from Munnabhai MBBS, where Arshad Warsi and his posse drink alcohol and gyrate to the tunes of a dancer came true? Well, for the medical staff at JJ Hospital, Byculla, that scene almost came true. In an embarrassing turn of events, liquor bottles and caps of other liquor bottles were found in the operation theatre. On Tuesday, a class-IV servant by the name of Naresh Pandit was cleaning the operation theatre (OT) in the neurosurgery department on the fifth floor when he realised that he was locked inside the OT. Desperate to get out, he called up the resident medical officer (RMO) to let him out. When the RMO rushed to his rescue that is when the bottles were found lying in the servants' changing room, which is a part of the operation theatre.

"This is a very unfortunate event and we will punish those who have dared to drink inside the hospital. The sister in-charge, Kasturi Kadam, who is responsible to manage affairs inside the OT is careless and tomorrow morning I will conduct an enquiry into the matter," said Dr T P Lahane, Dean of JJ Hospital. When MiD DAY contacted Kadam, she denied her involvement in the entire situation. She said, "Yesterday (Tuesday), I was unwell and had not gone to work. On Wednesday, the Dean asked me about the liquor bottles but I was completely unaware how the bottles reached the OT. I am a union member and some people must be trying to implicate me."
A senior doctor on condition of anonymity said, "The entire situation is very embarrassing for such a well-reputed hospital. The fact that the liquor bottle entered the hospital in such a sensitive area shows that there is clear lapse in security too."

Bhojpuri actor held for 'shooting' at shoot
Mumbai
Enraged at not finding the studio owner who owed him money, Anil Samrat fired a round in the air to scare the studio staffers
Bhojpuri actor Anil Samrat, who was associated with Lalu Prasad's RJD for around 10 years and ran a liquor business in his home district Aara in Bihar before taking up a career in acting, opened fire at a city film studio while asking for whereabouts of the owner who had taken a loan from him. Acting on a complaint filed by studio owner Krushankumar Gupta, the police detained the actor for questioning yesterday morning and charged him with illegal possession of arms and attempt to murder.

Samrat allegedly opened fire from his Mausar pistol, sans licence, to scare Gupta's staff who pleaded ignorance about the whereabouts of the owner of the studio. Assistant Sub Inspector Rajendra Kane of Amboli police station said the incident took place at 10.30 pm on Tuesday when Samrat went to the Krishna Audio Vision Studio located at Skytek building in Amboli seeking repayment of the Rs 1 lakh loan that he claims to have given to Gupta. "When he did not find the owner there, he started threatening his staff members who were present at the spot and shot a round in the air," said Kane.
When Samrat left the spot in a huff, the scared staff members called Gupta and narrated the incident to him. Gupta soon approached the police and registered a case of attempt to murder against the actor. The police officers have recorded the statements of Gupta and his employees present at the spot. "Gupta had taken Rs 1 lakh as loan from Samrat and had paid only half the amount. Gupta was to still pay Samrat around Rs 40,000 that led to the incident", added Kane.
MiD DAY spoke to one of his country cousins who said that there had been no major criminal records against him. But he confirmed the actor used to be associated with people with criminal bac grounds as he ran a theka in Aara. He added that Samrat contested the assembly polls from Aara as an Independent candidate as the actor severed ties with Lalu and his party. He lost the election by 1,200 votes. Though Samrat shifted to Mumbai to make a career in films three years ago, his family still stays in Aara.

Body in bag: Woman identified as Myanmar national
New Delhi: The woman whose body was found stuffed in a travel bag three days ago in west Delhi has been identified as a 22-year-old Myanmar national brought up in Manipur, police said Monday.
"The victim has been identified as Chong alias Cecelia. She hails from Myanmar, but was brought-up in Manipur. She came to Delhi in 2005 with her ex-husband whom she divorced last year," said Additional Commissioner of Police V. Renganathan.A voter identity card found in the room where the decomposed body was found Friday helped in identifying the woman, police said.
The voter card was in the name of Cecilia's friend, a student from Manipuri staying in Delhi.
"We established the victim's identity after successfully locating and questioning the person whose voter card was found," said Renganathan.
"According to the statement of the friend of the victim, after divorcing her husband, Chong had started hanging out with Nigerian nationals residing in various parts of Delhi. We are questioning several persons in connection with the case," added Renganathan.
Police said Nigerian Innocent Nwayo, the man from whose rented accommodation in Uttam Nagar the black travel bag carrying Chong's decomposed body was recovered, was staying in the country under a false name.
Police said the absconding Nigerian businessman's real name is Mac. A lookout notice has been issued to trace him.
Kerala: Cop hires goons to attack journalist
By Dakshina Muraleedharan
Thiruvananthapuram: Law enforcers have turned law breakers in Kerala as a senior police officer has been arrested for hiring goons to attack a TV journalist to settle scores.
VB Unnithan, a journalist with the Malayalam daily 'Mathrubhumi' is in the hospital. He was brutally attacked by a group of gangsters in Kollam on April 16, but investigations into the case revealed a shocker, that the attack may have been planned by a senior police officer Santosh N Nair with a grudge, after the journalist in 2009 wrote a questionable article tarnishing his reputation. Nair has been taken into custody.
Senior Journalist and former President of Kerala Union of Working Journalists in Thiruvananthapuram Gouridasan Nair said, "There is a worrying trend in Kerala police which has to be nipped. Despite a police act being enacted recently, this has not help in uprooting the criminalization of the police force. The top brass of the police has a huge issue on their hands and they should take a serious note of this and act."
The incident has left the Kerala police red-faced but it has prompted them to swing into action.
Thiruvananthapuram DIG S Sreejith said, "We have no qualms over bringing our brethren to justice if they are at fault. It shows how professional we are. There is nothing to be embarrassed about. If an officer has erred in some way he will be punished, that's all."
The attack on Unnithan has been the worst case that has come to light in what many say is a state wide phenomenon. The public is a worried lot and they want their men in uniform to clean up the system.

Body in bag: Victim identified, suspect's sketch released
NEW DELHI: Three days after the decomposed corpse of a woman was found stuffed inside a black travelling bag in a small locality in Uttam Nagar Phase II, the victim was identified as Chong alias Cecilia, a Burmese national who had been staying in Manipur.
The woman, in her early 20s, came to Delhi after she got married to a BPO employee in 2005. An election commission card recovered from the first-floor of the Uttam Nagar house where the body was found led to the girl's identification, said police. Delhi Police has released a picture of the prime accused, Innocent Nwayo, who had been allegedly living under an assumed name as Mac.
"We found the election commission card of a woman in the room and contacted her. She identified the body as that of Chong, who had been living with friends in south Delhi on and off after she was estranged from her husband in 2010," said additional commissioner of police (west) V Renganathan.
According to police, Chong's relationship with her husband broke down in 2010 since he reportedly did not approve of her personal habits. Around two-three months back, she had reportedly introduced Innocent Nwayo as her boyfriend to her friends. She had been frequently staying with him, said cops. "She was currently not employed and has no family in Delhi or back in Manipur. We have sent the body for postmortem and are investigating the case," said a senior police officer.
The girl's body had been found stuffed inside a bag on Friday afternoon around 4pm on the first floor of a building in Uttam Nagar. The tenant of the house, Nwayo, had been missing along with the third floor tenant, Michael, said cops. The landlord was able to provide police with the passport photocopies of both of them. A team has been sent to Mumbai to hunt for Nwayo as police suspect he has left the city.

Ganja smuggling routes traced to Manipur: DRI
GUWAHATI: A day after officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized more than 2,300 kg of ganja from a truck in the Jalukbari area of sources on Sunday said two routes from Manipur to the state have turned into a safe passage for narcotics carriers.
"The two stretches have been identified as the Manipur-Dimapur-Numaligarh road in Golaghat district, which connects the city via Tezpur, and the Manipur—Jiribam-Silchar-Guwahati stretch which connects the NH-37," said a senior DRI official.
Drug peddlers have been using these routes to carry ganja and other narcotics from Manipur to West Bengal. According to sources, ganja is produced in a big way in Manipur`s Ukhrul district. It`s then smuggled to Bihar and Uttar Pradesh via West Bengal.
In the last 10 years, DRI officials have seized more than 1 lakh kg of ganja from in and around the city. In the last three years, officials seized 19,000 kg of ganja from the city. In 2010, they seized 4,500 kilogram of ganja in the city. According to DRI sources, the contraband was meant to be supplied to Bihar and Uttar Pradesh via West Bengal.
In 2005, DRI officials arrested 12 persons involved in carrying ganja. "The persons tried to slip away in the guise of army commandos flashing AK 56 rifles. But we managed to detect them," said the source.
While ganja is supplied from Manipur to Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, narcotics-like drugs and phensedyl are carried to the northeastern states from outside. In the city, Lokhra and Amingaon have been identified as the spots where secret loading and unloading of ganja is carried out.
However, sources in the intelligence agency said the main kingpin involved in ganja trade has been running the business from cities located outside the state. "Most of the kingpins are staying outside the state. Their agents are operating in the northeast," said the source.

Body in bag: One held, prime accused on the run
NEW DELHI: Two days after the decomposed corpse of a woman in her early twenties was found stuffed inside a black travel bag in a small locality of Uttam Nagar Phase II, one of the two accused in the case has been detained by the police for questioning. The prime accused though is still on the run, with police fearing that he might have left the city.
Though sources confirmed the incident, senior police officers refused to come on record claiming that the matter was still under investigation. "Our investigations are on and we are working on some leads. Several teams are working on the case and we are trying to identify the girl as soon as possible," said a tight-lipped additional commissioner of police V Renganathan.
"We have the passport copies of both the accused and know that Innocent Nwayo alias Mark, the prime accused, had come from Mumbai to Delhi. Accordingly we have sent a team there as we suspect that he has fled from Delhi. The other tenant, Michael, lived on the third floor," explained a senior police officer.
Police sources claimed that they had contacted their counterparts in northeast India for any clue about the identity of the victim. "The girl appears to be of northeast descent and is about 5 feet 4 inches, fair and slim. She was dressed in capris and her face was badly decomposed. We have also contacted northeast activists in case they are able to help with her identification. It appeared that she had been killed at least 18-20 days ago," claimed a senior police officer. Though police sources claimed that the girl was found inside the bag in just her capris and lingerie wrapped in a quilt, Renganathan vehemently denied the claim.
Innocent lived on the first floor and a third tenant, Michael, on the third floor. "They had valid business visas from October 2010 till later in 2011. They had told the landlord of their house that they had some export clothing business but we have not found evidence of any such business. We are probing their possible involvement in a crime racket such as drug peddling or cheating. From the information gathered from neighbours, it appears that the Nigerians were regularly visited by some girls," said a senior police officer.
A resident of the area claimed on the condition of anonymity, "Girls in the age group of 20-22 years would regularly visit them in expensive-looking party clothes and accessories. Once when I stopped them and asked them who they were, they claimed to be students. They would come in odd hours too. In March a Nigerian had been caught dealing drugs in the area."
While Michael had been living in the building for the past eight months, Innocent had started living in the house since February 4. Said their landlord Gurudev Singh, "Both of them were supposed to pay rent at the beginning of the month but they did not show up at my office. Innocent's phone was switched off while Michael wouldn't answer his phone."
Police claimed that there are roughly 2,000 African nationals staying in west Delhi alone. "There are quite a few of them living in areas such as Kakrola, Nawada, Anand Nagar, Uttam Nagar and Mahesh Nagar. Earlier we found several of them indulging in criminal activities and living on expired visas," said a senior police officer.
The decomposed body of the victim was found around 4pm on Friday after the police were informed that there was a stench on the first floor of the Uttam Nagar house.
Though sources confirmed the incident, senior police officers refused to come on record claiming that the matter was still under investigation. "Our investigations are on and we are working on some leads.
Couple held with heroin
Shillong, May 23 : A couple landed in police custody for possessing and distributing heroin to youths in parts of this city.
According to police, the husband and wife, Henry Vaiphei, 35, and Grace Khaute, 33, were arrested from Madanriting in Shillong on Wednesday after raiding their shop and subsequently they were forwarded to court.
The police initially seized two Chinese balm containers with heroin weighing around 0.9gm and from the shop and another 0.7gm from one Vang Lenthang from the same locality. During the raid, the police also seized nine cell phones and Rs 14,730 from their possession.
A police officer today said the duo were part of a big racket involved in circulating the drugs among the youths here. Concerned over the issue, the East Khasi Hills police are on a task to unearth the source of the supply of narcotics to parts of Shillong.
“We are trying to get to the source and we need to identify them as there are many kingpins who are using small time drug peddlers in Shillong,” East Khasi Hills superintendent of police A.R. Mawthoh said today.
According to the police officer, many illegal drugs are smuggled into Shillong from other states and a better coordination with neighbouring states would be able to check the trend. He also said that the police have identified several vulnerable areas in the city to check the circulation of drugs among the youths. The state has an anti-narcotics task force, which is following up the cases, the officer added.

The transferred officials are a CBI SP and a DySP, a CBI spokesperson said.
The action came after Feroz Abdul Khan, alias Hamza, 51, an accused in 1993 Mumbai blast case who was arrested from a village in Navi Mumbai in February last year and was handed over to CBI for further investigation, was traced in Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai.
CBI had issued an Interpol Red Corner Notice against Khan in 1994 but the notice was not withdrawn even after the agency has got his custody.
"CBI has conveyed to the Home Ministry that the lapse was on the agency''s part. When CBI forwarded the list to MHA, they forgot to delete the name of this person," a Home Ministry spokesperson said.
Khan is alleged to have facilitated transport and distribution of arms and ammunitions during the blast and subsequently. Mumbai police had alleged that following Dawood Ibrahim''s instructions, Khan arranged for landing of arms allegedly used in the blast.

Save Your Passport From Fraudsters
Make your passport tamper-proof

New substance to make passports fraud-proof
London, May 19 : Your passport can now be protected from fraudsters. Scientists here have developed a new substance that can be used to prevent forging of passports and banknotes.
Scientists have developed pigment-free polymer materials, virtually opening the way to new, tamper-proof passports and banknotes.
The polymers do not use pigments but instead exhibit intense color due to their structure, similar to the way nature creates color for beetle shells and butterfly wings.
The chemistry involved in making the polymers renders it very difficult for fraudsters to copy, ideally suiting the polymers for use on passports or banknotes, the journal Soft Matter reports.
Andrew Parnell, physicist from the University of Sheffield, who led the study, said: 'We now have a painter's palette of colors that we can choose from using just two polymers to do this. We think that these materials have huge potential to be used commercially.'
Researchers used Diamond Light Source, the UK's national synchrotron science facility in Oxfordshire, to probe the polymer structures using X-rays. This helped them understand how the colors were formed, and how to improve the appearance, according to a Sheffield statement.
The diamond synchrotron generates X-rays around a 100 billion times brighter than a standard hospital X-ray machine.

Traffickers in Police Net, 9 Minors Rescued
Dwaipayan Ghosh
NEW DELHI: Nine minors have been rescued and two youths arrested in a police operation that busted a gang of human traffickers. The gang was operating in Assam, West Bengal and the Indo-Bangladesh border.
The arrested have been identified as Ismail Ahmed (32), hailing from Nowagaon in Assam and Babita (25), who allegedly runs an illegal placement agency, Ashok Chand, deputy commissioner of police (crime), said. Ahmed was arrested on May 5 from Shakurpur when he allegedly struck a deal with a decoy customer to sell one of the minor girls. She was promised a side role in a Bollywood film.
The accused told the police that there are at least six brokers and agents operating in Assam, West Bengal and the Indo-Bangladesh border who procure minor children on the pretext of providing them better lives in Delhi. The children are handed over to the illegal placement agency called Babita Enterprises. "We have identified five out of the six brokers. Babita's husband Praveen is the main accused who has fled to Punjab. Once we nab him we will get the names of other agents too,'' said an officer.
Babita was apprehended later and the remaining six girls and two boys aged between 11-15 were rescued with the help of the NGO Shakti Vahini and a police team led by additional DCP P S Khuswah. The agency paid Rs 20-25,000 to procure them. The minors were then sold to residents or small manufacturing units for Rs 30,000. The agency demanded one year's salary of the kids as advance. Once they got the money, they never paid a penny to the children or their parents. The kids had no contact with their parents for the past three years," said the officer.
The traffickers followed two different modules. "Children between the ages of 11-15 were placed in domestic households. Those above 15, especially girls, were sold off in Delhi and Haryana. Girls brought from Bangladesh were promised jobs in modeling agencies. Extreme poverty often led their parents to accept the agents' propositions,'' said an officer.
Crime branch officers said that a number of placement agencies in the Shakurpur area are now under their radar. "Most of them have no licenses and there are repeated complaints against them from NGOs. We are planning to approach the child and women welfare department to find solutions", said the officer.

48 rapes every hour
48 women raped every hour in Congo, study finds
Dakar : The African nation of Congo has been called the worst place on earth to be a woman. A new study released on Wednesday shows that it's even worse than previously thought: 1,152 women are raped every day, a rate equal to 48 per hour. That rate is 26 times more than the previous estimate of 16,000 rapes reported in one year by the United Nations.
Michelle Hindin, an associate professor at Johns Hopkins' Bloomberg School of Public Health who specializes in gender-based violence, said the rate could be even higher. The source of the data, she noted, is a survey that was conducted through face-to-face interviews, and people are not always forthcoming about the violence they have suffered when talking to strangers.
"The numbers are astounding," she said.
Congo, a nation of 70 million people that is equal in size to Western Europe, has been plagued by decades of war. Its vast forests are rife with militias that have systematically used rape to destroy communities.
The analysis, which will be published in the American Journal of Public Health in June, shows that more than 400,000 women had been raped in Congo during a 12-month period between 2006 and 2007.
On average 29 Congolese women out of every 1,000 had been raped nationwide. That means that even in the parts of Congo that are not affected by the war, a woman is 58 times more likely to be raped than a woman in the United States, where the annual rate is 0.5 per 1,000 women.
Previous estimates of the number of rapes were derived from police and health center reports in the nation's troubled east where the conflict is concentrated. The authors of the study used figures from a government health survey and pooled data from across the country.
The highest frequency of rape was found in North Kivu, the province most affected by the conflict, where 67 women per 1,000 had been raped at least once.
"The message is important and clear: Rape in (Congo) has metastasized amid a climate of impunity, and has emerged as one of the great human crises of our time," said Michael VanRooyen, the director of the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative.
Armed ‘Batman’ nabbed in US
'Batman' is once again on the hit list but this time not for the film, rather for a Michigan man who was caught trespassing with dangerous weapons on a roof, wearing the Caped Crusader's costume.
The 31-year-old, wanna-be superhero, whose name has not been released, was also in possession of several "dangerous weapons" like “a baton type striking weapon, a can of chemical irritant spray, and a pair of lead-lined gloves”, according to the Petoskey Department of Public Safety.
Public safety officers and state police apprehended ‘Batman’ after receiving a call that someone was dangling from the roof of a tall building along East Mitchell St in Petoskey.
Authorities said that they went up to the roof where they found the man dressed as the ‘Dark Knight’.
"They observed a male subject, dressed in a Batman costume, hanging [by his hands] off the western wall of the building," The Daily Telegraph quoted the Department as saying.

Rajaratnam guilty on all insider trading charges

Former hedge fund guru Raj Rajaratnam, co-founder of the Galleon Group LLC, at the center of the largest US crackdown on hedge-fund insider trading in US history, arrives at federal court in Manhattan in New York - AFP file photo
New York: Galleon Group hedge fund founder Raj Rajaratnam was found guilty on all 14 conspiracy and securities fraud charges of insider trading on Wednesday, a verdict that could galvanise the government's aggressive tactics in future prosecutions of Wall Street figures.
The federal jury in New York convicted Rajaratnam of nine counts of securities fraud and five counts of conspiracy for what prosecutors describe as the one-time billionaire's central role in the most sweeping probe of insider trading at hedge funds on record.
The jury announced the unanimous verdict on the 12th day of deliberations in Manhattan federal court in what many legal experts said was a strong prosecution case using FBI phone taps and testimony of three former friends and associates of Rajaratnam.
Prosecutors hammered at their argument that Rajaratnam cheated to gain an unfair advantage in the stock market from 2003 to March 2009, reaping an illicit $63.8 million.
Throughout the two month-long trial, defense lawyers stuck consistently to their main theme that Rajaratnam's trades were guided by a trove of research and public information, not secrets leaked by highly-placed corporate insiders.
Sri Lankan-born Rajaratnam, 53, faces a prison term of up to 25 years when he is sentenced by presiding U.S. District Judge Richard Holwell.
Prosecutors asked the judge to jail Rajaratnam pending sentencing. Soon after the verdict was announced and the jury left the courtroom, prosecutors and lawyers began a hearing on whether or not he should be jailed.
The case is USA v Raj Rajaratnam et al, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, No. 09-01184.

Cop arrested for raping airline employee
Mumbai: A sub-inspector, posted in naxal-affected Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra, has been arrested for allegedly raping an airline employee, married to an Australian, here and later extorting money from her, police
said on Tuesday.
The accused Manoj Londe surrendered before police in Mumbai after he came to know about the FIR being registered against him by the 21-year-old woman, Additional Police Commissioner (Central Region) Vineet Agarwal said.
The sub-inspector was booked by Vinoba Bhave police in central Mumbai on the charges of rape and extortion, following a complaint filed by the victim on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.

According to the FIR, Londe threatened the woman of posting some of her video clips taken in compromising positions on Internet, police said.
"The accused was produced in a local court in Kurla which remanded him in police custody till May 14," Agarwal said.
According to sources, Londe's mobile phone has been seized and police were questioning him as to where he had hidden the video clips of the victim.
Though the case was registered in Vinoba Bhave police station, the investigating officer in the case is Lata Donde, senior inspector at Shahu Nagar police station.
Defending his decision to hand over the investigation to Donde, the ACP said "Donde is a woman inspector and I think she can do the investigation in this particular case very well."
Meanwhile, the sources said ACP has taken serious note of the incident and wanted no loophole in the investigation.
"A lady officer can freely talk to the victim and also accordingly interrogate the accused. The victim would not have talked freely with a male officer," sources said.
Police said the victim was an Indian national married to an Australian. She first met Londe, who is also married, about two-and-a-half years ago in Vinoba Bhave police station where he was posted then. The duo subsequently became friends and started having an affair that continued for over two years.
The woman claimed Londe later started demanding money from her and also threatened of releasing the MMS clips on Internet if she did not shell out money as and when needed by him, said Agarwal.
After the threats, the victim started avoiding him.
Even after he was transferred to Gadchiroli district over a year ago, he continued to blackmail her and forced her to have physical relationship, police said.
The victim claimed last week, Londe came to Mumbai and beat her up.
Mexican drug smugglers tunnel 250 feet through SOLID ROCK beneath U.S. border
A tunnel running 250 feet beneath the U.S.-Mexican border has been discovered fully kitted out with electricity, water pumps and ventilation.
Authorities in Arizona said although they've found dozens of tunnels in Nogales, a city in Santa Cruz County since the 1990s, this one is by far the most sophisticated.
Chief border patrol agent Randy Hill said those who were building it had chiselled through solid rock and installed lighting and other equipment.
Alternative route: A smuggling tunnel kitted out with lights, pumps and ventilation has been discovered running under the Mexican-U.S. border in the city of Nogales
Border patrol found an entrance to the tunnel on May 2 in an abandoned building. An investigation has begun with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Mexican government.
The tunnel lies 15 feet beneath the ground and is three feet wide and five feet high.
Chief Hill said: 'This tunnel is more sophisticated than other recently discovered tunnels. They chiselled through solid rock and then installed electricity, lighting, water pumps, and ventilation.
Sophisticated: The tunnel, which runs across the Arizona state border, is used by Mexican drug cartels to move their stashes into the U.S.
Resourceful: Authorities have found eight similar tunnels in the last six months
'It is a prime example of the risks traffickers will take and the lengths they will go to smuggle contraband into our country.'
The state of Arizona straddles a heavily trafficked route for powerful Mexican cartels smuggling marijuana, cocaine, heroin and methamphetamines into the U.S.
Security has been tightened along the shared border in recent years leaving drug smugglers no option but to burrow underground to try to evade detection.
At least eight tunnels have been found running beneath the streets on both sides of the border since October last year.
Last weekend, 12 suspected members of a powerful drug gang and a member of Mexico's Navy were killed in a shoot-out on an island lake that straddles the U.S.-Mexico border.
Drug traffickers used the island on Falcon Lake, located between Texas and the Mexican state of Tamaulipas, for storing marijuana to be transported by boat to America.
Watchful: Border patrol is finding it difficult to keep out the increasingly powerful Mexican drug gangs
The 2,000-mile U.S.-Mexico border already has 650 miles of fence, nearly half of it in the state of Arizona.
The state's 376-mile border is the busiest gateway for both illegal immigrants and marijuana smuggling.
The Governor of Arizona recently signed a bill to erect a fence along the border with Mexico that went ahead without the cooperation of the White House.
A project has started with the agreement of landowners and construction could begin this year.
Minimum-security prisoners already have been used to clear brush in immigrants' hiding spots near the border, and clean up trash and other materials dumped there.
The fund has received nearly 44,000 donations totalling more than $3.7 million, collected online and through mailed donations since May 2010
Pressure point: The number of tunnels into the city of Nogales, Arizona shows how vulnerable the mountainous region is to the drug trade

Cop booked for raping 21-year-old airline employee
According to police, cop also threatened the woman of posting some of the video clips of her taken in the compromising positions on Internet.
MUMBAI: A police sub-inspector, posted in naxal-infested Gadchiroli district, has been booked on charges of raping a 21-year-old wife of an Australian national working in an airline here and extorting money from her, police said today.
The accused, identified as Manoj Londe, was booked on the charges of rape and extortion following the complaint filed by the victim on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday in Vinoba Bhave police station in central Mumbai, police said adding that Londe was yet to be arrested.
According to the FIR, Londe also threatened the woman of posting some of the video clips of her taken in the compromising positions on Internet, police said.
"The victim is an Indian national but she married an Australian," said Arunkumar Aaigal, senior inspector at the police station.

Rescued woman says she was raped by many
JAIPUR: In another twist to the case of a woman's molestation by the cops of Pratap Nagar police station including the SHO, her friend, Neha (name changed) who had gone missing on January 18 and found later near Mathura on Wednesday, has accused several people of raping her. In a statement given to a metropolitan magistrate, she also accused the molestation victim of being an accomplice in the crime.
The names of a senior RAS officer's son, a medical student and a doctor have come up as among who raped her. The police are now in a fix about how to proceed further. The police claimed that they are likely to get a copy of the statement on Monday and will corroborate the claims made her with evidences. Accordingly, they would act against the rape accused including the RAS officer's son.
On January 25, 20-year-old Vandana (name changed) had attempted suicide by jumping before a moving train. She alleged that she was called to Pratap Nagar police station for questioning in connection with Neha's whereabouts after the later went missing on January 18.
Vandana alleged that she was molested by SHO Ramniwas Vishnoi and two other policemen. The accused policemen are currently in jail. The police had launched a frantic search for the missing girl after the suicide attempt by her. Neha was found three days ago from a village near Mathura in UP.
Neha said she had met Vandana while going to coaching classes. On December 7 last year, Vandana called Neha to her room where she was drugged and raped in an unconscious state. When she woke up she allegedly found a youth in the bed. She said in her statement that he again raped her. She also alleged that Vandana made a video clip and threatened to make it public and post it on the internet. After that Vandana allegedly used to make Neha meet other youths on a regular basis.
Neha alleged that another youth who used to roam around in a car fitted with a red-beacon and claimed to be the son of a senior RAS officer, also raped her in a hotel. Others whom she had accused of raping her include a doctor and a medical student. She claims that she attempted to delete the clipping from the laptop, but the accused showed her the same in their mobile phone and a pen drive.
She claimed that on January 18, she was hit with a stick on her head and drugged. Then she found herself in a train on way to Pune with a youth who identified himself as Bunty. He took her to his village near Mathura where he pretended that she was his wife. During her stay there, she underwent an abortion. She somehow managed to call her father following which she was rescued.
Commissioner of police BL Soni said that the police are yet to get a copy of the statement. "We will corroborate the girl's claims with facts and evidences and act accordingly," Soni said.
Court issues Koli's death warrant, mercy plea filed
Ghaziabad: A special court has ordered that Surender Koli, sentenced to death in sensational Nithari serial killings case, be hanged between May 24 and May 31 following which he has filed a mercy petition before the President.

In the May 3 order, the judge said that Koli should be hanged between May 24 and May 31 at 4 AM.
Following the issuance of the death warrant, Koli moved a mercy petition before the President of India on May 7, the CBI counsel today told a court which fixed May 13 for further order in the matter.
Koli was sentenced to death along with his employer Moninder Singh Pandher, 54, by the Ghaziabad court on February 13, 2009. It was the first of the Nithari killings cases to be decided. The Allahabad High Court had confirmed Koli's death sentence on September 11, 2009 while acquitting Pandher of the charges.
The Supreme Court upheld the death sentence in February saying the case was "horrifying" and "barbaric" and "no mercy can be shown to him".

"In the statement, he (Koli) described how he allured the girls and then strangulated them. He also confessed that he used to have sex with dead bodies and would eat parts of human body after cooking them," the bench had said in the order.
A total of 16 cases were registered against Koli after Nithari serial killings came to light in December 2006, following discovery of human remains from a drain behind Pandher's house in Noida ob the outskirts of Delhi.
Haldar, who went missing from her home in the neighbourhood of Pandher's residence in early 2005, was one of victims of serial rape-cum-killing episode that sent shockwaves across the country.
Koli was sentenced to death in four other cases. Both Koli and Pandher are currently lodged in the high-security Dasna Jail here.

Deranged father shoots dead his girlfriend and their six-year-old twins before turning gun on himself
A deranged father shot dead his girlfriend and their two children inside a car before turning the gun on himself.
Salvador Acevedo, 45, murdered Iris Oseguera, 33, and their six-year-old twins - a boy, Michael, and a girl, Michelle - while his three other teenage children were in the car with them.
Acevedo then drove the three surviving children to a relative's house and released them, before driving to a separate location and shooting himself.
Twins: The six-year-old girl and boy, Michelle and Michael, who were shot and killed in the family car by their father Salvador Acevedo
Killer: Salvador Acevedo, 45, murdered his girlfriend Iris Oseguera, 33, and their six-year-old twins before shooting himself
Police in Los Angeles said that the family had been driving on a residential street in a grey sports utility vehicle when the adults began to argue.
Acevedo produced a handgun and shot Oseguera and the two children in the chest.
It was his three surviving children who called the authorities, once they had been released unharmed.
Police told local news outlet KTLA that they received a report of gunshots at around 10.30pm on Saturday on a street near where Acevedo had previously owned a business.
Murder scene: Blood stains the pavement alongside a painted 'RIP Chava' memorial, where Salvador Acevedo shot his girlfriend and two children
Murder-suicide: The bodies of the dead family are moved from the car to the coroners van at the scene of the shooting
The car was moving when deputies found it and they instructed Acevedo to stop, shortly before they heard a gunshot.
Acevedo was found dead in the driver's seat from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Three other bodies were found in the car, as was a handgun.
Oseguera was pronounced dead at the scene and although the twins were taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center for treatment, they died there later.
At the scene of the shooting, floral tributes were left on the pavement and the words 'R.I.P. Chava were painted on the blood-stained road at the side of the vehicle.

Mystery over death of 'scared' teenager just three days after she revealed she had a stalker
A pretty blonde teenager has been found dead three days after revealing she had a stalker.
Emily Longley, 17, told friends on Facebook: ‘I have a stalker!’ before adding she had been bombarded by calls from a mystery man who wanted to date her and that she was ‘really scared’.
The student, from Auckland, New Zealand, wrote: ‘Someone just called me. They were like “You don’t know me but I know everything about you”.
Tragic: Emily Longley, 17, complained of feeling 'scared' shortly before losing her life
Fears: Emily announced 'I have a stalker' on Facebook just three days before she was found dead
‘He kept asking me out. I hung up and they won’t stop calling.’
‘And I was like “how did you get my number?” and he was like “I’ll tell you when I see you”.'
Emily, who had previously worked at TopShop, was found dead on Saturday morning at home of her former boyfriend.
A spokesman for Dorset police said: 'A 19-year-old man was arrested at the scene in connection with the death.
'A 17-year-old man was also arrested on Saturday night at another address in Bournemouth. We can confirm that both men were known to the dead girl.
'They have both been released without charge on police bail.'
Emily’s father Mark says his daughter apparently died in her sleep but the cause of her death remains a mystery, the New Zealand Herald reported.
Beach: Emily had just returned from a family holiday in New Zealand
‘It is a huge shock to us, and Caroline [Emily’s mother] and I are going to England to try and find out what happened,’ he said.
‘She was a beautiful girl and full of life, it is so tragic.’
The Brockenhurst College student had just flown back to the UK after enjoying an Easter holiday with her parents in New Zealand. She had been living with a relative in Bournemouth for eight months.
Facebook tributes have been pouring in, with her sister Hanny writing: ‘RIP beautiful big sis xx.’
Her friend Hannah O’Gilvy said: ‘I need her so badly right now and she’s gone. I just wish I could have been there for her. I want her to come back. I wish she didn’t go to England.’
Dorset police have described the death as ‘unexplained’.

Nigerian arrested for Ayurveda scam
The police on Saturday arrested a Nigerian citizen, whom they believe is part of a large online scam that was duping Indians by asking them to export Ayurvedic medicines for a fictitious British company. According to police officers investigating the case, a fictitious British company had contacted Prashant Gangam, a student of business management in Mumbai, online.
A man, who identified himself as John Richard, began chatting with Gangam, telling him the company wanted to import Ayurvedic medicines from India. He asked if Gangam was interested in buying the medicines for the company and receive a commission for exporting them.
Last month, Gangam fell for the bait. "Richard asked Gangam to get in touch with a woman in Mumbai, who would supply the medicines to him," said Police Inspector S Awte, from Kalachowki police station. In a few days, a Nigerian who identified himself as Solomon Moris Duke, 31, visited Gangam. He provided Gangam with packets, which contained an unidentified powder, and asked him to pay Rs 31 lakh for it, stating that the powder was medicinal.
Assuming that the packets contained drugs, Gangam contacted the Kalachowki police station. "Gangam got suspicious and approached us. On Saturday, when the Duke came to collect the money, we arrested him," said Awte. Duke has been arrested on charges of cheating. The police are trying to trace Richard and the woman involved.

NZ man loses $1m to fraud dating agency
A New Zealand man has been duped of nearly 1 million dollars and has had to sell his home, car and shares for the love of a woman who may never have existed.
He is among the 11 'lonely and vulnerable single' men who are claiming that services of an Australian dating agency - True Love Corp - did not eventuate or fell well short of what was promised, reports Stuff.co.nz.
Two of the men claiming unfair trading have intellectual disabilities; one is deaf and another attempted suicide after being pursued by debt collectors.
Looking for love, the single men signed up hoping to find the perfect partner. Instead, TLC - True Love Corp - exploited their vulnerability, pressuring them to pay exorbitant sums to meet women who, in some cases, may not have existed, a court has heard.
The man who had lost his wife to cancer paid more than NZ 923,000 dollars, believing a woman named Angie wanted to marry him. He came to Australia for their wedding but she phoned to say she was flying to America, where her daughter had been in a car crash.
Deeply in debt, the man phoned TLC for a refund, a woman identifying herself as Hollie Veall, the director of TLC, answered. He recognised her voice as that of ''Angie'', the NSW Supreme Court heard.
The NSW Department of Fair Trading took action against Veall and Zivko Dimitrijevski, another former director, over alleged fair trading and trade practices breaches.
The pair did not attend court to defend the case, which proceeded without them before Justice Terence Buddin.
The court will consider the issue of restitution when the case resumes later this year.

Stir over Ragini MMS posters
Angry locals pull down, blacken hoardings citing vulgarity
Ekta Kapoor's upcoming paranormal film Ragini MMS seems to be attracting controversies. As the release date is approaching, the film is incurring the wrath of locals.

The faces of the lead actors of Ragini MMS on the posters of the film were blackened at Andheri and Bandra
Some angry residents have pulled down posters of the film at some places and also blackened the faces of the lead couple Rajkumar Yadav and Kainaz Motivala, citing vulgarity concerns.
Airport authorities has pulled down two hoardings near Santa Cruz station and few posters have been blackened in Andheri East and the Bandra lake.
This has left the Balaji team fuming. They feel someone is trying to sabotage their film.
Kainaz seems unperturbed by such actions and says, "It doesn't matter. People have loved the promos and I think they will still come and watch it."
Raj adds confidently, "I think everyone has their own perception. Hopefully this will not harm our film and people's perception will change once they watch the film."

Killing in Vasant Kunj: Shobhit murder suspect was Aarushi's friend
One among the twenty five persons questioned so far by Delhi police was a classmate of the slain daughter of Noida doctor couple Rajesh and Nupur Talwar.
It's a crossroads where two 'whodunits' meet. In connection with the Shobhit Modi murder case of Vasant Kunj (north) Delhi Police on Sunday interrogated an ex-classmate of slain teenager Aarushi Talwar. "Sahil Khanna (name changed), a former student of Delhi Public School Noida had a tiff with the deceased Shobhit Modi over his friend Sana (name changed) who is studying at DPS, RK Puram. Sahil had studied with Aarushi Talwar when they were in class IX.

Mystery deepens: Shobhit Modi (left) was killed in Vasant Kunj on
Thursday. Aarushi Talwar (right) was found murdered at her
Noida home on May 8, 2008.
Around a year ago, a party was thrown in Delhi in which Sahil Khanna, Shobhit and Sana had met. Sahil started liking Sana and proposed to her several times. Shobhit scolded Sahil when he came to know about this. Since then the two were not on good terms. Sahil confessed about the tiff but has denied his hand in the murder," said a senior police official on the condition of anonymity. Sahil lives in Patparganj area of east Delhi and is still pursuing an LLB degree from Amity University; he is in the first year of the course. His father is working with a security firm. Sana has reportedly revealed a few names who might be involved in the murder.
Indecent proposal?
Rohit (name changed), another student of DPS and neighbour of Shobhit, was also interrogated by the police. Rohit too had been rebuked by Shobhit for allegedly stalking Sana. Rohit had been proposing to Sana while she would have nothing to do with him. Fed up with his advances, she complained to Shobhit about Rohit. "Shobhit had taunted Rohit about his looks in front of Sana. He too acknowledged the incident but claims he had nothing to do with the killing. Police let him go after taking his statement," said a police official. The officials have taken the statements of Shobhit's friends Priya, Param and Akshat (all names changed) and two other girls in connection with the case.
Meanwhile, a police source called up this reporter and said that a girl could also be behind the killing.
"During interrogation police came to know that Shobhit had ignored proposals of few girls. One of them can also be behind the incident, probably because of jealousy," he said. However, the source refused to name any of the girls.
An official close to the investigation said that the sharp-edged weapon used in the crime was a dagger. "The forensic doctors have told us that the weapon used in the crime was bigger than a kitchen knife and most probably a dagger," said the police. Cops said that prima facie investigations suggest that Shobhit was stabbed by two persons. "His assailant seems to be first time attacker. We are suspecting that a known person is behind the," said the police official.
The official said that Shobhit had called up at the landline no. of his home and said that he would reach there within fifteen minutes. At around 9:30pm on May 5 he called up one of his friends and said that he was going home in an auto rickshaw. The friend has said the same to the police. "If we could trace the auto rickshaw we can get a lead in the case through the driver. Police are searching for the TSR that dropped him in Vasant Kunj area. So far we have not got any clues about this," said the police official. DCP, South, Chhaya Sharma said that eight teams have been roped into the investigations, each working on a different angel. "So far the motive behind the murder is not clear to the police. We are working on a few possibilities, a love triangle being one of them," she said.
No robbery
Shobhit's iPhone, costly wristwatch and cash had not been taken away and this had led police to arrive at the conclusion that robbery was not the motive for the murder
Murder scene
Shobhit was found lying in a pool of blood near Gate number 3 in C-5 area of Vasant Kunj (north) on Thursday at around 9:40pm by Teknath, a security guard of the area. The guard did not know how to use his cellphone. Meanwhile, Shobhit's friend Priya (name changed), who lives in Mayur Vihar, called him up. Teknath told her that Shobhit had stab injuries. Priya called up Suraj Modi, the victim's father and a general manager with MMTC. Suraj Modi tried to reach Shobhit on his cellphone and asked him where he was. The victim's parents rushed to the spot and took him to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. Shobhit was living in C-6 block with his family. He was a second year student at Manav Rachna University. His brother Rohit is pursing an MBA from a Gurgaon-based firm and is also working with a private firm in the same area. His mother Renu is a homemaker. On May 5, he left his home for DLF mall. A driver had been employed by his father a month ago, as Shobhit was no good behind the wheels. His driver dropped him off at DLF Mall where he met six of his friends including three girls. Shobhit and his girlfriend Sana left the mall, along with her parents, in a car. The victim's cellphone revealed that he had been near DLF Mall at around 9:30pm.

UK bookie wants to use item girl for IPL fixing
Liza Malik, best known for proposing to a cricketer on a reality show, has been offered Rs 50 lakh to arrange for cricketers to talk to an international bookmaker
Item girl Liza Malik, best known for her proposal to a cricket player on the reality show Dancing Queen, has found herself figuring on the radar of international bookmakers. A UK-based bookie, who calls himself Razaaq aka Razz, has been calling Malik asking her to use her alleged familiarity with Indian cricketers to help him fix matches in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). She has been offered Rs 50 lakh for the job.
Liza, who is also a stage performer, has done several shows that were attended by cricketers playing in the IPL and for Team India. She was also a regular at the IPL post-match parties last year.

"I was in Thailand last week when the calls started pouring in from unknown international numbers. The caller said he knew that I was close to couple of cricketers and asked me to arrange for him to speak to them," said Malik. "He offered me Rs 50 lakh if I could get the cricketers to play as per his 'equations'. I told him that I am a mere performer and am not acquainted with cricketers, but he kept emphasising on the Bhajji controversy. After I got a little rude with the man, he threatened me with dire consequences if I did not do his bidding. It seems he has been tracking me. He knew where I lived, knew about my family and even knew that I was in Thailand then," she added.
Petrified, Liza approached the Oshiwara police station on returning to the city yesterday and registered a complaint against the caller. "A non-cognisable complaint has been registered against an unknown person under Section 307 (issuing threats through phone calls) of the IPC. We have asked her to approach us if she gets a call from the person again and we will register an FIR then," said a senior official of the Oshiwara police.

German man turns woman, alleges rape
A German man, who underwent a sex change operation to become a woman, has moved an application in a local court pressing charge of rape against a man who refused to marry him. Patrick claimed before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate here that he had homosexual relation with a Kashmiri man in New Delhi some times back and they had decided to get married. Since homosexual marriages are not recognised in India, Patrick decided to undergo a sex change operation to become a woman to be with the man he loved. However, after the operation which cost him Rs 30 lakh, the accused refused to marry him. Patrick moved an application in the court against the person. However, counsel for accused moved an application before the court yesterday challenging the rape charge. "The relation between the two took place when Patrick was still a man. Hence the rape charge cannot be applied. It is now to be examined what procedure he has undergone that has made him a woman," said advocate Bilal Ahmad Bhat, who is representing the accused. The court has kept the matter in abeyance before deciding under what sections the case can be tried.
